Katkin's Gardening

Directions

Katkin's Gardening Gardener/trained horticulturist offering general garden maintenance and plant care. I am passionate about making gardens beautiful and relaxing to be in.

Border care is a key part of my service. Other services include lawn care packages, hedge trimming and pruning. I have a certificate in practical horticulture and completed an introduction to garden design course, so maybe planting plans will be an included service in the future. I have work experience from country estate gardens. I believe in continuous career development, so I continue to seek courses, books and experiences to build my horticulturist knowledge. Lovely to nip in with a spare hour I had today. These quick visits are one of the great advantages of my Historic Houses membership and living close by.

It was an interesting day out and insightful to see how the garden is holding up in the drought. I will defo go again and stop saying I will do it some day.

For once I am loving the mist and drizzle of the home land of Northern Ireland. It is a relief from the baking hot summer in Norfolk. Just wish for the rain to come and give relief to the plants down south!

Oenothera lindheimeri 'Whirling Butterflies'. One of the few plants thriving in my garden in this drought. I am taking cutting to repeat through the garden, as my garden has very well drained soil and this three year old Oenothera is very happy with limited watering, getting a soak maybe twice this summer.

One of the benefits with working in a variety of gardens is building a 'go to' list. This summer has seen a significant drought, so making notes of what plants continue to deliver for gardens.

The future is likely to see more droughts in summer, but we will see what winter brings us.

I enjoy a smoothing mint, lemon verbena or lemon balm tea. I grow a bit of a variety, mainly purchased Norfolk Herbs. Fresh leaves make a wonderful summer drink, however i go to shop bought in the winter.

I am experimenting with home drying leaves for enjoying homegrown teas in the winter. Today, I dried lemon verbena, I may as while in this current drought. I will update on the quality of the drink when I use.

Verbena bonariensis, Stipa and Hemerocallis holding up in the Norfolk heatwave.

This is a border I put together and planted up 3 years ago.

I am taking note of plants being able to withstand the heatwaves and limited watering. I will have a selection of choices for clients to add or indeed multiple through their borders to keep gardens looking good in this new normal.
