Before and after at Birchwood House, showing just how significant this transformation was.⁠

Having worked with our clients designing their previous home, it was wonderful to be asked to work with them again. There really is no greater compliment to our team. 👋🏼⁠
⁠
The original 1930s house had been extended over the years, but the layout lacked flow and there simply wasn’t enough bedroom or living space for their growing family. We remodelled the ground floor and extended at first-floor level, creating a generous kitchen, dining and family space alongside a snug, office and utility, with a dramatic double-height entrance hall at the centre of the home.⁠
⁠
Outside, the transformation is just as striking. The new double height gabled design completely changes the appearance of the house, with cedar cladding and stone adding warmth alongside render, hanging slate and contemporary glazing.⁠

Just some of the many recent CGI designs from our team - from contemporary barn style new builds to extensions and remodels of much older properties.⁠

A closer look at some of the details at our Old Dairy project.⁠

This former milking parlour sits within a beautiful rural East Devon setting, so the exterior details were carefully designed to ensure the newly extended home complimented its surroundings.⁠
⁠
Traditional Devon materials play a big part in this, with local stone and river-pebble walling bringing warmth and character to the elevations. These sit alongside warm-toned render, a slate roof and contemporary aluminium glazing, creating a balance between the building’s agricultural past and its new, more modern design.⁠
⁠
One of the strongest features is the substantial local stone chimney, which rises through the roofline and gives the exterior a real focal point. Integrated solar panels have also been incorporated into the roof, supporting the more sustainable approach taken throughout the project.⁠
⁠
Modern glazing provides the contrast, with large windows framing the surrounding countryside and connecting the home to its wonderful rural location.⁠
⁠
A lovely mix of traditional Devon materials and contemporary details, designed specifically for this setting.⁠

Could you have a disused barn that could become a spacious new home, rental property or development opportunity? 🌿⁠

Based in Devon, we work on a huge number of rural projects where an unused agricultural building has the potential to become something much more.⁠
⁠
Barnfield Fold was one of those projects. We first secured Class Q approval to convert the existing barn into a home, before taking the project a step further and gaining full planning permission to replace it with a bespoke new dwelling.⁠
⁠
This ‘betterment’ approach gave us the opportunity to design a more sustainable, better-performing home that worked for our client, while retaining the simple form and rural character of the original agricultural building.⁠
⁠
A simple form, timber cladding, standing seam metalwork and large areas of glazing created a contemporary countryside home that was both achievable to build within our clients budget, and designed for the future.⁠
⁠

Another wonderful review for the New Space team.👏🏼⁠

For this project, our client wanted to transform their detached home by creating more space and a much stronger connection to the garden. The existing layout was made up of a number of smaller rooms that felt disconnected and lacked natural light, so the brief was to create a generous open-plan living space better suited to modern family life.⁠
⁠
The design features a traditional timber apex extension, bringing plenty of character and warmth to the property. Wide bifold doors and a glazed gable will flood the space with natural light while opening up views of the garden throughout the year.⁠
⁠
We're delighted with the design and incredibly grateful for our client's feedback. We can't wait to see this project progress to the next stage and come to life on site.
