Case study: basement waterproofing for a home in Newport, South Wales

We recently completed a full basement waterproofing solution for a residential client in Newport, South Wales to fully protect it from water ingress and create a space that was safe for habitation and storage.

With any basement waterproofing task, there is always the risk of water ingress caused by changing water tables, blocked drains, localised flooding, and so on. In these instances, the ground becomes heavily saturated which can seep into the basement.

To ensure a fully dry interior, we had to identify the weakest points in the structure where water could seep in, then figure out how to manage water ingress whilst effectively managing hydrostatic pressure.

The result was a fully waterproof basement that adhered to BS 8102:2022 Grade 1a Type C waterproofing design standards.

Case study: Damp Proofing for a Terraced Property in Lincoln

We were contacted by a rental agency in Lincoln to inspect problems associated with rising damp, which was causing heavy salt deposits in the property. It had left the interior walls damp, with bubbling and peeling wallpaper and plaster.

To get the property ready for tenants, Timberwise laid out a multi-step plan to resolve the source of the internal damp by injecting a damp proof course and re-plastering the area so it is ready for redecoration.

Case Study: Damp and Condensation Control in Kirkcaldy

When a homeowner in Kirkcaldy noticed persistent dampness and atmospheric moisture in their 1960s end-terraced property, Timberwise were called in to perform a comprehensive survey.

We found a number of external defects around the property, along with poor ventilation inside, that was causing penetrating damp and condensation. We also noted that poor subfloor ventilation was increasing the property’s risk of a wet or dry rot fungal attack.

Timberwise provided the client with a comprehensive report and action plan, which included extensive damp proofing and timber replacement work, as well as the installation of new extraction units for the bathroom and kitchen to help with the build up of condensation.

Case Study: Overcoming Complex Damp and Timber Restoration in Banbury

When a Banbury housing association tasked Timberwise with investigating widespread dampness, condensation, and timber decay in an occupied two-storey brick residence, our team stepped in with a tailored preservation plan.

We found an array of issues outside the property which was leading to the moisture inside. Defective guttering and a breakdown of the existing damp-proof course had led to moisture ingress and hygroscopic salt deposits.

Case Study: Eradicating Active Dry Rot in a 1930s Southampton Home

A homeowner in Southampton tasked Timberwise with inspecting an active dry rot outbreak across their ground floor living room and utility room. Blocked air bricks caused by failing cavity wall insulation had restricted subfloor airflow, creating the ideal conditions for fungal decay beneath the floor timbers.

To prevent the outbreak from spreading, our team devised a plan that included creating a toxic box barrier to contain the fungus before replacing all affected timber in the area, as well as restoring cross ventilation to prevent the problem from recurring.

Our Bradford branch was called out by a homeowner in the West Yorkshire town of Pudsey to perform a full survey. We found that the property was dealing with severe atmospheric moisture and dampness, which had led to timber decay and a wet rot outbreak.

Condensation was a huge concern for the owner, as relative humidity readings hit 80–85% in the basement and 70–75% in the bathroom, which had resulted in widespread black spot mould that had previously just been painted over.

We provided the client with a full report of our findings, along with recommendations on how to resolve the issues.
