🎉 Mid-Year Promotions 🎉
Congratulations to Joe and Byron on their exciting new roles — incredibly well deserved!

Joe Graham – Senior Technician 👏

Since joining AWP in 2021, Joe has consistently contributed to the success of AWP. Joe demonstrates strong technical capability, commitment and reliability, establishing himself as a dependable member of the design team, and someone well aligned with the core AWP values.
We look forward to supporting Joe as he continues to progress. This promotion reflects the important role Joe will play in AWP’s future and our confidence in Joe’s continued success.

Byron Povey – Assistant Technician 👏

Byron has been with the AWP team for several years and in that time, he has developed a good understanding of engineering principles and has developed a keen eye for detail producing high-quality drawing and drafting work. We look forward to seeing Byron continue to develop as he steps into his new role.

Well done both!

This year, our annual team-building and training event took us away for a special trip to celebrate AWP’s 14th anniversary!

We started the day with a casual hike on Dartmoor, and luckily, the September weather was on our side! 🌿☀️ Some highlights were the incredible views around Haytor rocks, exploring the nearby quarry and meeting Dartmoor’s friendly wildlife.

The team were challenged to step outside their usual work groups and get to know colleagues they wouldn’t normally collaborate with.
With some team-building questions and an unexpected surprise from Paul Mattin, things soon turned into a mission to save damsels in distress! (quick-thinking First Aid improv was needed)

Thank you Paul Mattin from Wilderness Solutions for organising the route and activities, as well as bringing the snacks to keep us going!

After our hike, we headed to Bovey Castle for some well-earned downtime. This was followed by a delicious three-course dinner, where we also celebrated some of the team’s recent achievements. 🥂

Happy 14th anniversary, AWP! 🎉

A big thank you to Simon and Callum from Ruddlesden geotechnical for joining us on Tuesday to deliver a lunchtime CPD session on: “Everything you wanted to know about soakaway testing and groundwater monitoring, but were afraid to ask!”

It was a really informative and engaging session, with plenty of useful insights and practical knowledge shared - and, of course, made even better with pizza! 🍕

Hopefully the session was beneficial to everyone who attended from AWP and will help strengthen the way we work together moving forward.

Thanks again to Simon and Callum for taking the time to come in and share your expertise with us. 😁

❤️ This quarter, charity donations were chosen by our Operations Team! ❤️

For Q3, Millie has chosen to support the British Heart Foundation (BHF) — a cause that has become particularly meaningful to her after taking a closer look at heart health and its impact on families.
Millie’s friend, Cara Kane, is taking on a serious challenge this Saturday, cycling 100km off-road from London to Brighton in support of the British Heart Foundation, alongside her husband and colleagues from Toolstation.

A brilliant cause, a huge challenge, and an important reminder to take a little time to think about our own heart health.

Heart conditions can have genetic links, but many aspects of heart health are also connected to lifestyle and diet. The BHF has lots of useful information, advice and resources to help us all understand more about looking after our hearts and living a healthier lifestyle.
If you would like to donate, please do so here: https://www.justgiving.com/page/cb-l2b?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=CL

Good luck, Cara and team — we’ll be cheering you on! 🚴‍♀️

Sophie chose to support Wellbeing of Women, a charity that has funded more than £75 million into vital medical research for women. Their work covers areas including fertility, pregnancy, cancers, menstrual health and more, with their active research displayed on their website here - https://www.wellbeingofwomen.org.uk/what-we-do/research/our-active-research/

The team explored how some health conditions can affect women differently, including the symptoms of heart attacks.

Women’s health has been historically under-researched – this wonderful cause can help change that. 🙌

And now…. it’s over to Graham’s DI team to choose their charities next! 👀

AWP had 9 runners taking part in the Michelmores Charity Run yesterday evening, and every single one of them did brilliantly. A huge well done to the whole team for getting out there and giving it their all. 👏

It was a brilliant event raising money for Hospiscare, a local charity whose incredible work AWP is always proud to support. 💙

Special shoutout to Ceri Middleton who came 9th place overall with an outstanding time of 18:16! 👏👏👏

Of course, the evening wouldn’t have been complete without a well-deserved pint afterwards, enjoyed with our friends from Ruddlesden geotechnical! 🍻

Thank you to Dan Stanbury CeMAP. at Trident Mortgages & Protection for joining us this morning and delivering an informative session to the team. 🔱

It was great to hear from someone with so much expertise and knowledge, and Dan did a fantastic job of helping us understand the basics!

Great to be invited to present to the team at AWP Civil Engineering, sharing insights into the current mortgage market and discussing how we can work together to help the wider team achieve their property and protection goals.

Some great questions and conversations throughout the session, and I’m looking forward to working with the AWP staff going forward.

A big thank you to the organisers for the invitation and warm welcome!

AWP are proud to announce that we have recently become a Certified B Corp™! 🎉

B Corps are certified against the B Lab Standards, a globally recognised framework that assesses a company across verified social, environmental, and governance standards. (Learn more at http://bcorp.com) We decided to seek certification as we felt that the AWP values aligned with B Corp™ and were keen to join a global community of likeminded businesses.
Through certification, we have confirmed where AWP align with B Lab standards and identified areas of improvement for projects and office operations, with implementation underway!

At AWP, we've always believed that successful development should create positive outcomes for people, places and the environment. Becoming a Certified B Corporation™ reflects our commitment to delivering high-quality engineering and planning solutions while operating responsibly, supporting our team, and contributing positively to the communities we work in. (Read more at https://awpexeter.com/b-corp-certified/)

To celebrate this, we held a Summer Party for staff at Quayside - Café, floating bar, distillery & venue. Thank you Streamers for assisting with our decoration needs!

And a huge thank you to everyone at AWP who helped make this certification possible! 💙🌎

Each quarter, a team at AWP gets to pick which charities the company will donate to and spread awareness for. This quarter, Team Flood Risk & Drainage chose the following:

💜Hospiscare: who offer end of life care and support to families involved. Only 20% of funding comes from the NHS, with the remaining from charitable donations. Our donation will be included in the next event!

💜Action for Neurodiversity: offering counselling services for people with Neurodiversity (Autism specifically) and additional organised get-aways.

💜Addison's Disease Self-Help Group supporting people with Addison's disease, when the body no longer produces enough of certain essential hormones. They provide medical advice, useful resources and spread awareness at events.

Three incredibly worthwhile causes. Thank you, Team Flood Risk & Drainage!

Happy Bike Week! 🚲

As part of our ongoing Travel Plan initiatives, we recently held our annual Ada House Dr Bike session, giving colleagues from AWP and WWA access to free bike safety checks and maintenance advice from a qualified mechanic.
From worn brake pads to tyre pressure checks, the session helped ensure bikes were safe and ready for the road.

By supporting cycling and other active travel options, we're continuing to promote healthier commuting habits while reducing the environmental impact of everyday journeys.

A big thank you to Ride On - Cycling For all, an Exeter-based charity and social enterprise, for another great session 🤩
