An out dated Staircase transformed into a new era.
As well as period staircase renovations we also undertake and enjoy designing and constructing a modern staircase conversion.
Custom designed frameless glass with no newel posts or timber balustrading, making the space seem larger and uncluttered as well as giving more light while modernising the whole look@of the stairs.
Every one of our stair conversion is a one off, always finding ways to incorporate as much of our clients ideas as physically possible to get the best result possible.
Staircase conversions can really transform a room in the house that can be over looked but is quite often the first room you see as you enter the hour so in some ways it can be one of the most important rooms to improve.

williambeardwoodcraftltd Bespoke Reclaimed Pine Floor.
These Reclaimed floor boards were made by deep cutting
Georgian joists to make 2 boards from one joist.
This gave our client a super long plank up to 4m long and width of 170mm.
We carefully Hand sanded the face and tumbled the edges using the remarkable festool Rotex150 & Rotex90 sanders.
The boards were stuck down on top of a slotted underlay and slots filled with the best polymer floor adhesive money can buy. Cut nails were then placed in every board for athletics as well as to hold the boards down until the high flex adhesive cured.
This method enabled planks with no tongue and groove to be installed with a secondary benefit of insulation keeping draughts out and heat in.
The bespoke Finish colour was chosen by our client from our sampling colour mixes on the off cuts of the reclaimed sanded pine.
The top coat chosen was a high traffic hybrid flooring oil made by which we have been using for over 15 years with fantastic results and performance.
We even had some spare planks to make up a retro hifi cabinet on metal legs to match the flooring.

Bespoke period door sets converted back to how they should have been.
Previous owner went down the cheap modern look which completely ruined the doorways to this orangery.
The New owners wanted to bring the period beauty back to this part of the home so we copied like for like, all the detail on the original doors present in the house as well as the period mouldings in existing doorways.
As always, top quality paint grade hardwood used for all our hand crafted interior doors supplied by
Top@quality brass ironmongery supplied and fitted as well as the safety glass fitting in the doors.
The existing oak steps were well made so we sanded these back to bare and stained and oiled to a finish.

WBW LTD Custom made traditional Box frame windows with sliding sashes.

The window box frames are made from the super durable sapele hardwood which will literally last a lifetime , supplied by my number one goto supplier of the very best timbers .

The frames are designed and constructed incorporating solid lead weights tied to nylon sash cord which give a lovely smooth natural sliding action.

The double glazed and fully draught proofed windows meet listed property and heritage requirements.

They are glazed with slimline super thin double glazed units filled with krypton gas for ultimate insulation and heat retention and condensation reduction.

The draught proofing and the glass together also reduce road noise considerably.

The paint finish chosen on this project was bedec MSP which is a fantastic product to complement the windows and the period property and will not flake or crack in the future so with minimal maintenance this will also help to make these windows last indefinitely.

Here we have another WBW LTD & / Brouns&co collaboration.

This time our client already new that Linseed paint was the only way to go as we’d previously restored their main gates and made new arched garden gates.
Both of which we hand finished with Brouns Linseed paint and 4 ans 5 years later and with only 2 simple clean & clear Linseed maintenance coats to bring back the lustre to look as good as the day they were done.

So this project , there were areas of the Orangery that had original rot and deterioration along with dodgy patching that was done at some stage in its life.
So we replaced the entire length of the corners and all other vertical columns with the incredibly durable sapele hardwood from
The rest we stripped and sanded back to bare from 60 grit up to 120grit.
We then mixed a linseed primer and followed on top with 2 top coats.
To be honest as Brouns state, softwood is ok for restoration using linseed because it allows the timber to breath totally and any water that penetrates dries out unlike other paints.
But I’ve been using sapele for 30 years so it’s a hard habit to break knowing that what ever finish it doesn’t want to rot!
Maybe the next Linseed project I will source
Some top quality pine for exterior use from easternhardwoods as I know they will come up trumps as always.

Making bespoke doors for period homes is very satisfying.
Nearly all of my external Doors are made from top quality Hardwood called sapele, which I find is very stable and extremely hard wearing and pretty nice to work with.

This is A door for life l, if the decoration is maintained along with annual checks for seal shrinkage around glass.

Big thanks as always to all at in Harlow. These guys really do select & supply the very best in hardwoods for all my special projects.

On this particular project I finished the door with the amazing 100% natural linseed paint which is produced in the Uk by Brouns & Co . This really is a paint that will ensure your exterior joinery lasts a lifetime.
With a basic annual or biannual check, a clean and application of a clear linseed oil on top of the pigmented paint brings the finish back to its original new look.
It will not shrink crack or blister so water doesn’t get a chance to get trapped in the timber which in turn rots most wood in time, especially softwood.

I will be posting more restoration projects completed soon.
Most of which are stripped & restored and re finished using Brouns & Co Linseed paint where you will see the process involved to save existing joinery and ensure it lasts a lifetime.

This was a very rewarding restoration project.

I had to restore this Indonesian Rosewood Table and bench set which had been bartered by the elements.

The natural beauty of this exotic hardwood was masked and protected by the natural oxidisation process the timber has when exposed to UV rays and extreme wet weather conditions.

This rare / one off hand made table is literally made from a single Rosewood tree trunk.

The beautiful grain characteristics were exposed by Sanding and re finishing with a very hard wearing hybrid wax oil that should keep it protected for many years to come.
