Located just outside of Ely, Metro Rod Cambridge offers a comprehensive Drain Care and Repair service in and around the Cambridgeshire and Norfolk areas and are fully accredited with the Water Jetting Association and the National Sewage Association. Our services Include:

- Pipe relining & patch repairs (excavation not required)
Using the latest drain technology we can reline and repair sections of damaged, broken, and cracked pipes without the need to excavate. We are able to locate the damaged section using CCTV and install an epoxy resin hot cured liner which adheres to the host pipe giving maximum strength to return the pipe to a water tight condition.

- Root removal (excavation not required)
With the aid of CCTV we can locate the area of root damage and remove roots using a mechanical cutter. This section of pipe will then be relined to prevent further root infiltration.

- Excavation
We can carry out full excavations to repair collapsed drains, our engineers hold Street Works certificates enabling excavations to be carried out on private land and in Highways. Area's Covered (ALL AREAS COVERED INCLUDE SURROUNDING TOWNS AND VILLAGES)

Our jobs range dramatically in size, and although a lot of the same things crop up time and time again (don’t get us started on wipes!), no two days are the same in any given week. It’s not all about urinals…

We also know a thing or two about manholes. In fact, we are quite the experts. One of our engineers recently carried out excavation works to raise a foul water manhole and install eight metres of pipework to remove a deformed section of pipework.

The last photo shows that after completing a project, we pride ourselves on how we leave a site. We won’t say we leave it how we found it because usually that would be a very, very bad outcome.

After a site visit to a property in Royston, our team identified an electrical fault with an existing pump that needed replacing. Some things can be fixed; others it’s time to say goodbye…

Once the quote was approved, our engineer returned to carry out the work. This included removing the faulty pump, installing the new unit, reconnecting the existing pipework and electrical supply, and completing full operational testing to ensure everything was working correctly.

Today we are back on the topic of PPM (Planned Preventative Maintenance) again because it makes up a significant amount of the work we do for businesses across Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.

Kieran carried out a PPM descale at Dunelm, which involves mechanical cleaning and debris removal using the Electro Mechanical Rod and wet vac as required. We’ve done this job hundreds of times, and it makes a real difference to how a business runs.

The rumours are true: the team really does get about… but it’s not what you think, we promise! 😂

A few months back, two of our engineers attended a job in Hunstanton, where they carried out leak detection on the incoming water supply to a customer’s property. Because of the age and condition of the existing pipework, the guys replaced the entire incoming water supply pipe instead of doing a localised repair. This larger project included the following:

• Excavation along the route of the existing water supply pipe.
• Removal and disposal of redundant pipework where necessary.
• Installation of new water supply pipe, suitable bedding material and pea shingle surround.
• Pressure testing of the new water service.
• Reinstatement of excavated areas, including concrete surfaces affected by the works.
• Final testing to confirm the new supply is operating correctly and free from leaks

They didn’t take their bucket and spade, much to their upset. Maybe next time, lads!

Today marks the start of a brand new season – Autumn is here!

That means it is time to consume ridiculous amounts of comfort food and hot chocolate (occasionally with Baileys, but only once we have clocked off, of course). It also means a busy time of year for us. Why? Because it brings leaves. And what do leaves do? Block drains and gutters!

We love a bit of nature here at Metro Rod, so helping The National Trust was always going to be a privilege.

The team originally visited to carry out the annual clean and service for their septic tank and pump chamber. But during the job, the engineer discovered that the automatic pump was faulty.

Shaun replaced the faulty float switches on the existing pump system (which serves the septic tank/pump chamber), without needing a whole new pump. As an honest company, we will always make you aware of any additional repairs that are required, but we will never exaggerate the necessary work (and therefore cost) for our own gain. Transparency is everything.

JD Wetherspoons reported a foul smell throughout their ladies’ staff toilets. One of our lovely engineers attended and found there to be no blockage, and the toilets flushed as they should.

So, had he missed something? Of course not. As if.

On further investigation, we found a b**g and access cap missing from a sub-stack. We replaced it, and as if by magic, the smell was gone!
