Summer house refurb now finished 🔨

A fair bit of repair work went into bringing this one back to life.

The rotten cladding boards were replaced using treated timber, with a slightly different profile to the original — but the customer was very happy with the finished look.

Two front corners were completely rebuilt where the timber had rotted, caused by bushes and trees being too close and holding moisture against the summer house.

The opening window from my previous post was also rebuilt, replacing the rotten timber and getting it back into working order. New window beads were cut and fitted to finish it off.

I also remade the front roof profile, repaired the damaged areas and re-felted the roof to give it a watertight finish.

A good amount of work involved, but another summer house brought back into good condition and ready to enjoy again. 👍

All the repair work is now complete, and the customer will be painting it to finish it off.

Part of this week’s work for a new customer in Longstanton, Cambridge, has been repairing a cedar summer house.

This window was definitely the worst of the lot and needed some serious TLC today!

I cut out the decayed timber from the stiles, but the bottom rail was too far gone to repair, so I decided to make a completely new one.

It definitely got the brain working with the various rebates, housing joints and details needed to recreate the original window, but I managed to get it all done.

The new timber is now fitted, and the beads have been cut to size and temporarily fitted to make sure everything lines up correctly.

Another repair rather than replacement, giving the original window a new lease of life. 🔨🪵

Lovely 4m x 1m solid oak table top sanded today, ready for a fresh finish.

🪵 Sanded progressively from 80 grit through to 180 grit, taking care to achieve a smooth, even surface.

💧 Water popped between each grit to raise the grain and help achieve a consistent finish.

🛢️ Finished off today with the first coat of Osmo Raw Oil which will help retain the natural appearance of the oak while providing protection.

A big piece of oak, but a very satisfying job! 👌

Bespoke Gate & Gate Lock Installation – Haddenham, Cambridgeshire

A recent bespoke gate project completed in Haddenham, Cambridgeshire.

The work included:

• Made-to-measure bespoke timber gate using treated timber
• Cross-halved timber construction for strength and durability
• T&G boarding to the front of the gate
• New timber post securely fixed to the wall
• BORG key code gate lock installed
• Two gate bolts fitted
• Gate stops fitted and adjusted
• Latch and handle orientation adjusted to suit the gate
• Two coats of grey exterior paint applied to the new gate and surrounding fencing

The existing gate was also upgraded with a new BORG key code lock after the previous lock had rusted and stopped working.

Repair to a wooden conservatory door today for a repeat customer in Woodhurst

1 - Cut the door to remove the rotten timber
2 - timber treatment to the cut edges in. End grain
3 - Cut new timbers to suit
4- treated the timber prior to glueing
5 - timber glued and screwed - screw holes plugged where possible or filled

6 - Sanded down timbers
7 - thin coat of primer ready for the customer to rub down fill and paint

Today I started another phase of my home refurb project

A built in cupboard to store all the house cleaning tools , SWMBO decided the allocated kitchen unit is going to be used for somthing else instead LOL

The unit will be cladded with MDF on the RH side and MDF scribes to the left and top

Double doors with poss a touch to open catch or a handle machined in to the doors

Painted the same colour as the wall to try and make it disappear 🤪

ChatGPT design idea to see what it’s like will see how it compares to the actual unit once it’s finished
