High prise on another level!

Whilst carrying out my normal work approach in a recent job which was nearing completion. Imagine my amazement being approached by a RAF Station Commander who presented me with his ‘Station Commander’s Award for excellence’, for my dedication and contribution to his RAF base. He’d notice the hours I’d been present, the weather conditions I’d continue to work through and my general hard work. An award that acknowledges those who go ‘above and beyond’. I pride myself on customer service and a medal is the cherry on the cake (especially having ex-forces parents)!

This recent work was a subcontracted project with local Cambourne Mechanical Services, professional plumbing and heating services.

What a way to end the year!

Fencing focus —> Close board panelling

A fence refresh along the end of a property; with a like-for-like replacement.

This panelling is a most satisfying refresh and replacement job. The end of the property was replaced with a six foot close board panel. The previously installed wooden posts were replaced with concrete repair spurs, so that no wooden components were in contact with the ground, attracting unnecessary rot. Always future proofing and creating longevity for our customer’s investments. Finished off with a new (and relocated) gate.

A secure and neat finish for this customer to enjoy.

Fencing focus —> Lattice panels

A fence refresh along the border of a long and established garden, with a like-for-like replacement.

It was out with the old lattice panels, and in with new lattice panels. The previously installed wooden posts were replaced with concrete repair spurs, so that no wooden components were in contact with the ground, attracting unnecessary rot. Always future proofing and creating longevity for our customer’s investments.

This customer has a tranquil garden and it was a pleasure to add that final piece of perfection for them to enjoy.

Decking platform

Customer required: A renewed entrance decking area to include a step from the gravel, built to last.

• Existing decking removed & cleared
• ⁠Concrete decking posts installed, chosen for longevity. This avoids any timber having contact with the damp ground and being subject to rot over time.
• ⁠A timber frame build upon the concrete base.
• Timber frame covered with a damp proof course to prevent water sitting on top of the timber frame.
• ⁠New composite decking laid with bullnose edging, the edging in a lighter shade to highlight the edge.
• ⁠A step from the gravel added from the previous design.

Garden transformation: Once a wrap-around grassed lawn, the front lawn now leads into an outdoor entertaining space featuring the customer’s own patio design.

Customer required: Low maintenance and privacy were key in their vision for a new outdoor dining area.

- Gravel: The grass was removed before being layered with Caledonian pebbles. A metal edging was installed around the border to maintain a sharp edge.
- ⁠Patio: Indian sandstone in light bronte shade laid in a design to the customer’s request.
- ⁠Manhole: Within the gravelled area, a manhole cover was replaced with a new recessed cover to blend in.
- ⁠Planter: A custom raised planter was built from oak sleepers, treated with UV protection oil and lined with plastic. The customer plans to grow vertical plants to create privacy into the rear garden.
- ⁠Finishing: The customer will be adding pots, table and chairs and it’s ready to use!

Lawn refresh & easy mowing measures installed

In the detail:
- The lawn was dug out first, having been overwhelmed with w**ds.
- Block paving laid around the border to create a ‘mowing strip’. The customer can quickly achieve neat edges with a sweep of the mower.
- Soil up-cycled from the sugar beet wash, selected for its fine consistency and limited amount of stones.
- Fresh turf laid.

What a pleasure to look back at this neat lawn.

Patio transformation & pergola build

Customer required: A ‘step free’ patio and pergola over the decking area (decking previously installed by Reveal).

In the detail:
-Smooth patio preparations started with building a retaining wall and setting the base at the right height, in the right places.
-Precision was key; calculating and marrying the slabs between three heights (back door, garage door and gate way).
-The small setts allowed for a subtle twisting slope to contour towards the gate.
-Positioning the slabs to meet the house with a breathable gap to prevent any damp from bridging over the damp course.
-All whilst planning the ever important water drainage solutions. Installations included a land drain at the garage and falling the patio away from the house.
-A new recessed man hole cover created to blend within the patio.
-Finishing the patio edging with gravel, blending down the length of the garden with a gravel border to house the potted plants.

Materials: Indian sandstone slabs in raj green with sandstone setts.

It was a pleasure returning to this customer. Continuing to build their personalised garden, bespoke to specific practical needs. It’s such a bright open space, ready to resettle and enjoy.

What a transformation!

Dominating conifers had become overgrown and roots were moving the paving slabs, they came out first to open and brighten the space.

Green oak sleepers have been installed on their ends. A beautiful curve now sweeps around the chimney breast. Instead of the previous sharp right angled path. Each curved sleeper has been profiled, so they fit together with no large gaps (because landscaping deserves the details). The sleepers have been sanded and treated with Osmo UV protection oil.

The path has been created with sandstone slabs which were left over from previous garden improvement project - a win for the customer!

Finishing with a w**d membrane on the remaining area and covered with Caledonian pebbles.

I think you’ll agree the sunset sets off the new materials beautifully!

The customer is left with a more manageable space, with far less maintenance. They now have the option to plant smaller shrubs between the pebbles.

Really pleased this customer is happy with their new tidy front garden. Customer satisfaction is the completing part of a job I love, always applying my precision and attention to detail. They made a cracking choice of materials, in keeping with their Victorian terrace house.
