What a transformation! 🏠✨

A recent project completed by the team at Aspen Joinery & Glazing Ltd, transforming this badly designed and poorly weathered cupola into a far more robust and energy-efficient installation.

The existing cupola required significant improvement to both its design and external weather protection. Our team carried out the necessary joinery works before completing the structure with extensive traditional lead detailing, providing a much more durable and weather-resistant finish.

The glazing was also upgraded to modern energy-efficient double-glazed units, helping to significantly reduce heat loss through the large glazed area while improving the overall thermal performance and comfort of the property. 🌡️

The finished result is better insulated, properly weatherproofed and built for long-term performance — while still retaining the traditional character of the property.

🪟 Do your windows or doors need some attention? 🚪
The existing timber frames on this garden room were in excess of 25 years old, and the customer was looking for a more modern and energy-efficient upgrade. ♻️✨
We supplied and installed a new uPVC door set, fixed glazed frames and opening window, finished white internally and rosewood externally. 🪟🚪
All fitted with energy-efficient double glazing to help improve the thermal performance of the room and retain more heat. 🔥🏠
Our part of the project is now complete ✅ with a new roof still to be installed, before the room is fully boarded and plastered internally.
A great improvement already — and it’ll be great to see the room once the full renovation is complete! 👌✨

🪟✨ Traditional Sash & Case Window Restoration ✨🪟

Another beautiful sash & case restoration completed by Aspen Joinery & Glazing. 🏡

These original windows had seen better days — several were painted shut and no longer operational, with old single glazing and secondary glazing throughout the property.

Our team carried out a complete restoration and upgrade:

🔨 Full restoration of the original sash & case windows
🪟 Removal of all existing secondary glazing
✨ Upgrade from single glazing to new heritage glazing
🌬️ Full draught-proofing throughout
🧵 New sash cords and adjustment of the existing weights
⚙️ Repairs and adjustments to get every window opening and closing smoothly
🏡 Original traditional character and detailing carefully retained

And the difference has been fantastic. 🙌

The client is delighted and has already noticed a significant improvement in heat retention 🔥 and a substantial reduction in external noise 🔇.

Traditional windows don’t always need replaced — properly restored and upgraded, they can retain all their original character while delivering a huge improvement in performance. 👌

A little different from our usual traditional cupola builds, but we think this one looks fantastic! 👌

Our client was looking for a modern roof lantern to complement their newly renovated living space and maximise the amount of natural daylight entering the room.

The existing roof lantern had reached the end of its serviceable life, so we carefully removed it and installed a new bespoke aluminium roof lantern with high-performance double glazing, creating a clean, contemporary finish that completely transformed the space.

The difference, both inside and out, speaks for itself. ☀️

Whether it’s a traditional timber cupola or a modern roof lantern, we take pride in delivering the highest standard of workmanship on every project.

Another rooflight refurbishment completed by the Aspen team this week.

Rather than replacing the entire structure, we were able to preserve the original timber framework, which remained in excellent condition, carrying out localised repairs only where required. ✅

The scope of works included:

• Localised repairs to the existing timber structure
• Installation of new hardwood glazing feathers throughout
• Upgrade from single glazing to high-performance double-glazed units
• Installation of new lead flashings, soakers and bespoke weathering details throughout
• Removal of the internal laylight to maximise natural daylight within the property
• Comprehensive overhaul of the existing rooflight system

Despite some challenging weather conditions throughout the week, the team remained focused and successfully delivered the project.

The transformation speaks for itself. The upgraded glazing, traditional leadwork and removal of the internal laylight have significantly increased the amount of natural light entering the property, while carefully retaining and enhancing an original architectural feature.

A fantastic restoration and another traditional rooflight successfully brought back to life.

Manufactured in our workshop and designed to complement the character of the property, this new dormer window has transformed both the appearance and performance of the home.

Works included:

✅ Bespoke timber sash and case dormer window manufacture

✅ New double glazed sash and case window for improved energy efficiency

✅ Traditional mouldings and architectural detailing

✅ New lead flashings and weathering details

✅ Slate reinstatement and associated roofing works

✅ Full external decoration and finishing

New sash & case dormer windows recently manufactured and installed by Aspen Joinery & Glazing 🔨

The existing windows had significantly deteriorated over the years, so we manufactured and installed new traditional sash & case units, upgraded with modern double-glazed sealed units for improved thermal performance and efficiency.

New hardwood facia boards and external timber detailing were also installed throughout to provide a much longer-lasting finish while maintaining the traditional appearance of the property.
