🐦 Bird proofing carried out in Livingston, West Lothian

Another bird spiking job completed in Livingston, with professional bird spikes installed to prevent birds from landing and roosting on problem areas of the property.

Bird spikes provide a simple physical deterrent without harming the birds and can be fitted to roof edges, ledges, chimneys, guttering and other common roosting points.
If birds are regularly sitting on your property and causing problems with noise and fouling, we can assess the area and recommend a suitable bird-proofing solution.

A joint entry today for our September Installer of the Month, this time from Zaks pest control LTD and DGC Pest Management.

We always recommend starting at the very top of a property and working down, and that is exactly what this team did.

Using smaller sections of Defender Wide Stainless Steel Spikes, they first protected the tops of the chimney pots, flues and cowls, followed by the lips of the pots. They then continued down the chimney, carefully installing spikes around the flaunching to prevent pigeons from settling along the edges.

Once these preferred high level perching spots are properly protected, pigeons will often move elsewhere in search of an easier and more accessible perch. Quite possibly the neighbour’s chimney!

With a cherry picker making light work of access, the job was completed safely and efficiently, leaving one very happy customer and providing the team with a pretty spectacular view from the office.

Thank you to Zaks Pest Control and DGC Pest Management for choosing Defender Bird Spikes and for sharing this excellent installation with us.

Tired of pigeons roosting on your property? If you are in the Edinburgh area, give Zaks Pest Control or DGC Pest Management a call. Or perhaps call them both for the full dream team experience!

🏭 New commercial pest control contract set up in Edinburgh

Another industrial site in Edinburgh now under the care of DGC Pest Management.

A full pest control system has been put in place, including strategically positioned and securely tethered tamper-resistant bait stations around the external areas of the site, alongside regular inspections and monitoring.

For industrial and commercial premises, prevention and early detection are key. A structured pest management programme helps identify rodent activity before it develops into a larger problem and provides an ongoing record of pest activity across the site.

We provide commercial pest control contracts throughout Edinburgh and the Lothians, covering industrial estates, warehouses, workshops, offices, retail premises and other commercial properties.

🐝 Wasp nest treatment in Livingston, West Lothian

A look at one of today’s wasp nest treatments in Livingston.

At this time of year nests can contain thousands of wasps, and activity around the entrance can become extremely busy. Treatment is applied directly to the nest entrance, allowing returning wasps to carry the insecticide further into the nest.

If you’re seeing a constant stream of wasps disappearing into a gap around your roof, soffits, guttering, shed or wall, there’s a good chance you have an active nest.

⚠️ Avoid blocking the entrance or attempting to seal it yourself — the wasps may simply find another route out, potentially into the property.

🐝 Not every wasp nest is as straightforward as treating the entrance…

We attended this property in Kirkliston, Edinburgh after the customer had tried to stop the wasps by sealing their access point with expanding foam.

Unfortunately, blocking an active wasp nest doesn’t get rid of it. With their normal route sealed, the wasps started finding alternative ways out, including into the house, making a conventional treatment from outside impossible.

Using our thermal imaging camera, we were able to trace the heat signature through the structure and pinpoint exactly where the nest was hidden. A small access hole was then drilled, allowing us to treat the nest directly rather than guessing at its location.

The photos show the results — the thermal image clearly identifying the heat generated by the nest, followed by wasps emerging through the treatment point covered in insecticidal powder.

⚠️ If you find a wasp nest, don’t block or seal the entrance while it’s active. This can force the wasps to find another route, which can sometimes lead them directly into the property.

🐝 Wasp nest in a difficult-to-reach location? We’ll do our best to get to it.

Another wasp nest treated in Bonnyrigg, Midlothian, this time with the nest located high up around the roof.

Not every wasp nest is easily accessible. We regularly deal with nests at height, around roofs, soffits, fascia boards and guttering, as well as other awkward areas.

Where it can be done safely, we’re prepared to go the extra mile to get the treatment exactly where it needs to be rather than simply turning the job away.

If you’ve noticed wasps repeatedly flying in and out of a gap around your roof, there’s a good chance there could be a nest hidden inside.

🐝 Wasp Nest Removal – Drem, East Lothian

Called out to Drem, East Lothian to remove a wasp nest built inside a bird box.

By June, most queen wasps have already found a suitable place to build their nests, with bird boxes, sheds, lofts, garages and roof spaces being some of the most common locations.

If you've noticed wasps regularly flying in and out of the same hole or gap around your property, it's likely there's a nest present. Dealing with it now is far easier than waiting until it becomes much larger later in the summer.

We provide professional wasp nest removal throughout East Lothian, Edinburgh, Midlothian, West Lothian and Fife, with fast response times and fixed pricing.

🏠 Loft Clearance & Rodent Proofing – Edinburgh

This loft had extensive rodent activity, with large amounts of droppings, contaminated insulation and nesting material throughout the roof space.

Before carrying out the clearance, we first completed a full rodent treatment programme using a combination of traps and rodenticide to bring the infestation under control.

We then identified and repaired a damaged drain chamber with cement, installed a rat flap to prevent rodents travelling back from the sewer system, and sealed a number of external proofing issues to stop re-entry.

With the infestation resolved and the entry points secured, we carried out a full loft clearance, removing contaminated materials and preparing the area for fresh insulation.
This is why effective rodent control is about more than just putting down bait – it's about finding the source of the problem and preventing it from happening again.

We provide rat and mouse control, drain repairs, proofing, loft clearances and loft decontamination throughout Edinburgh.

🐝 Busy Week for Wasp Nest Removals Across Edinburgh

We've been busy this week removing wasp nests from sheds, lofts, garages and other hidden areas in and around Edinburgh.
At this time of year, queen wasps are actively searching for sheltered places to build their nests, and it's often sheds and outbuildings that are affected first. Catching nests early can prevent them developing into a much larger problem later in the season.
If you've noticed wasps coming and going from a shed, roof space or around your property, it's worth getting it checked sooner rather than later.
We provide professional wasp nest removal across Edinburgh, Midlothian, East Lothian, West Lothian and Fife.

🐦 Not Your Typical Call-Out… 🐦

We were called to a tenement flat in Meadowbank, Edinburgh after residents could hear faint chirping coming from inside a wall.

After investigating, we discovered a young bird trapped within a wall void. The chick was carefully recovered, safely boxed up and handed over to the SSPCA, who attended to take over its care.

It’s not every day we get called out to rescue wildlife, but we’re always happy to help where we can. Thankfully, this little one had a happy ending.
