Greyfriars Kirk floral display starting to break into colour with the Tete a Tete Narcissus flowering. The circle has Cineraria (silver dust) in the inner with black Violas filling the remaining space. Last but not least a mixture of Pansies providing the multicolours around the outer border. Soon be time for the first cut.

Some cemetery work completed in February before the start of nesting season. This Privet hedge looks neat with the headstones set inside. Grass had a high cut and strim too to finish off.

Just a small selection of shrubs, perennials and bulbs that have battled through the cold to brighten up the start of the new season. Lighter nights and milder days are helping these flourish helping our early rising bees and other insects feed.

As we welcome 2026 and get back to some form of normality what better way to start than with a large hedge in Greyfriars kirkyard. Normally I cut this in September however I’ve left it later as it’s been really mild and didn’t want it producing a lot of new growth as it only gets cut once a season.

The Privet produced about 18-24 inches of growth and looked abit scruffy considering the surrounding landscapes, however it’s now looking nice and sharp where you can see Edinburgh Castle in the background in the final picture.
