Cyanuric Acid (CYA) helps protect chlorine from being broken down by the sun—but too much of it can become a problem.

As CYA levels build up, the amount of active, sanitizing chlorine available to kill bacteria and algae is significantly reduced. The result? You may keep adding more chlorine, yet the water still struggles to stay clean and clear. This is commonly referred to as the chlorine lock effect.
