It’s been all hands on deck for Archie Thorburn Ltd.
The 2nd chimney up at Carnoustie was very wobbly after hacking the render off, so it had to be stripped down and rebuilt using brick.
We poured a Granolithic cope the same as chimney 1, fitted lead soakers and cover flashings and then gave it a 3 coat wet dash system the same as chimney 1.
The gable apex panels where originally on timber lathe. All the timbers were rotten so we suggested the client have Macfadyen preservation come out and asses the area.
A plan was put in place, we extended the scaffold for access to all panels. Macfadyens came and cut out, treated and replaced timbers before reforming the gable apex, boarding it with render board and putting the Tudor style timbers back on.
This allowed us to then dress, form and fit a new lead flashing at the lower section of the apex followed by coating the panels with the same wet dash system as the chimneys.
The panels, and the 2 chimneys have had 3 coats of masonry white paint. The black timbers got 2 coats of black gloss.
We are now moving onto the third and final chimney.
