Looking down Loch Hope from Hope Lodge for WildLand.

A glazed timber screen and half-glazed door divides the bedroom from the en-suite, in traditional painted joinery. Small-pane glazing above and within the door borrows light between the two rooms, with sheer linen dressed behind the lower panes for privacy.

Stop chamfer detail to the lower door panel, inset bead to the lower panelling of the screen, brass rim lock and hinges throughout.

One of the finest views in Scotland.

Laurence McIntosh delivered the full refurbishment of this Highland lodge, together with a substantial granite extension opening out towards the loch.

As Principal Contractor, we managed every stage of the project, bringing together craftsmanship, coordination and attention to detail from start to finish.

The Utility Room at Hope Lodge for WildLand

A mix of solid oak and painted units. Oak wall cabinetry with glazed doors, painted base units and drawers below, built around a concrete sink and black stone worktops. Crittall-style glazing separates the space from the room beyond.

Great to welcome the team from MLA to Laurence McIntosh.

We took them round the workshop, walked through the range of our work as a main contractor, and spent some time on what goes into our bespoke architectural joinery. Always good to open the doors and show rather than just tell.

The Gun Room at Hope Lodge for WildLand

Solid oak cabinetry, traditionally fitted, with original antique glass set into the doors. Four drawers, two cupboards, and glazed display sections above for the decoy collection, cartridges and books.

We contributed to the design, manufacture and installation of the bespoke solid European Oak cabinetry throughout the kitchen at Hope Lodge.

The joinery includes glazed wall cabinets, base units, integrated storage, wall panelling and a bespoke pantry, all manufactured to suit the layout and requirements of the space.

Today’s announcement by The Glasgow School of Art is an important step in the long journey of the Mackintosh Building.

While the GSA has concluded it cannot undertake faithful reinstatement on its own, it’s encouraging that the ambition to rebuild this remarkable building remains alive. The commitment to preserve the structure and create a platform for future reinstatement keeps that possibility open.

Those of us involved after the first fire saw the extraordinary research, craftsmanship and conservation expertise that went into the project. Before the second fire, prototype library bays had already been completed, demonstrating that faithful reconstruction of key elements of the Mackintosh interiors was achievable.

The Mackintosh Building is one of Scotland’s greatest architectural treasures. I hope today’s announcement is the start of the partnerships and investment needed to secure its faithful reinstatement for future generations.
