🏠 Project Update | 7–8 Saunders Street, Stockbridge

We’re making excellent progress on one of our largest domestic roofing projects of 2026.

We were recently awarded the contract to fully strip and renew the tiled roof coverings at 7–8 Saunders Street in Stockbridge, Edinburgh. The works involve a comprehensive renewal of the roof, including new leadwork, relining of all gutters, mortar repairs and complete retiling across all elevations.

The project was awarded through our framework agreement with the City of Edinburgh Council, with whom we have proudly worked as an approved contractor for almost two decades.

During that time, we’ve been trusted to repair, renew and maintain hundreds of properties on behalf of the Council. We’re extremely proud of that long-standing relationship and to remain one of their incumbent certified contractors today.

With the recent weather being kind to us, the project is progressing well and we’re aiming for completion within the next eight weeks, weather permitting.

Once complete, Council tenants and private owners within the block will have the reassurance of knowing the roof has been renewed in its entirety, with a comprehensive 20-year warranty covering both materials and workmanship.

And while the warranty provides peace of mind for the next two decades, a properly installed tiled roof of this specification would be expected to perform for considerably longer — potentially 40–60 years or more with appropriate maintenance.

A significant project, and another one we’re proud to be delivering in the heart of Edinburgh.

Another commercial project is well underway in Midlothian for our client, Northern Steeplejacks.

This unit was originally clad with asbestos cement sheeting, which had deteriorated in several areas, creating a risk of both injury and potential asbestos fibre exposure for operatives working inside the building.

Following our recommendation, the client opted for the complete removal of the existing asbestos sheeting rather than carrying out localised repairs. The roof is now being reclad with modern plastisol-coated steel sheets, providing a safer, more durable, and longer-lasting solution.

You’ll also notice our safety netting installed beneath the work area to protect personnel from falls, along with debris netting to safely contain any small materials that may fall into the unit during the replacement works.

We’re making excellent progress and are on track to complete the project within the next week or two. Stay tuned for further updates as the transformation continues.

Our commercial team have been hard at work breathing new life into this tired, dilapidated industrial roof in East Lothian.

The existing roof had deteriorated over time, with numerous leaks affecting operations below. To add to the challenge, the roof sheets contained asbestos, making replacement the safest and most practical long-term solution for our client.

The project is currently well underway, with our team carefully removing the existing asbestos cement sheets, ensuring they are safely disposed of in accordance with regulations, before installing a new plastisol-coated corrugated roofing system.

Even at this stage, the transformation is already taking shape, and the difference is clear to see. Once complete, the building will not only have a fresh new appearance but also a durable, weatherproof roofing system that will provide reliable protection for many years to come.

We’re delighted to add a new MEWP (cherrypicker) to our expanding fleet. This machine was made to order for us since retiring our previous machine earlier this year, this one features a 23 metre boom with an improved outreach allowing us to access the highest and trickiest of roofs, even when parked vehicles are obstructing us. This machine vastly improves our responsiveness as it negates the need for scaffolding in many situations and allows us to attend to emergencies immediately and carry out general roof maintenance and repairs for our growing pool of clients.

We embark on another large scale tenement overhaul in central Edinburgh, which incorporates new slating, lead work, cast-iron rainwater goods and render work for a group of owners in this block who originally commissioned us to carry out a detailed survey to review and highlight the areas of concern which needed to be addressed. Scaffolding has recently been erected and signed off, our welfare is on site and the skips and loading bays are at the ready for the work to begin in earnest. We retire an old work horse this week for a new and improved 5 metre long ‘dropside’ pickup which means more space, less journeys per project and improved efficiency in terms of servicing our sites. A more polished look in the branding department too…it won’t look new for long!

It’s not often the sun is shining in this part of the world, but when it is, it’s probably a good opportunity to take a few shots of our new shop front and modern office space, which looks pretty sharp — if we do say so ourselves — in our trademark blue & white branding. A bit of a facelift on this tenement’s gable end in Bruntsfield. We were initially called out due to falling debris from the roof down to the ground below, which was in close proximity to a nursery so the urgency was very high. We erected our scaffolding and carried out a close inspection and ‘tap test’ on the stone and pointing where it was discovered the top half was eroding in various sections and the pointing required immediate attention. The owners commissioned us to carry out sporadic stone repairs, repoint the entire top half and install new copes to the wall-heads. The contrast from top to bottom demonstrates how much of an aesthetic impact some pointing and stone repair work has on a building. The owners are keen to engage us to carry out the same work to the bottom half next year to complete things which will really finish this gable off.
