🏆 Well… this one has officially won all the awards for our smallest cupola to date! 😂

Small in size, but certainly not short on detail.

A beautiful little traditional timber cupola, manufactured and installed by The Edinburgh Cupola Company Ltd, finished with bespoke glazing and traditional leadwork detailing.

Proof that even the smallest cupolas deserve the full treatment. 👌

🏠 Recent Communal Roofing Project Completed – Edinburgh

Another substantial project recently completed by The Edinburgh Cupola Company Ltd.

The works included the installation of a new 3-layer felt roofing system across the communal flat roof, with careful detailing around the existing chimney stacks, rooflights and adjoining roof areas.

Alongside the communal works, we also carried out additional works for one of the property owners, including the replacement of their cupola and rooflight.

A great example of the larger-scale roofing and specialist cupola projects our team can undertake, from initial survey through to completion.

🏛️ Another beautiful cupola restoration completed in Edinburgh. ✨

This project involved the complete replacement of an existing roof cupola, together with a full recovery of the flat roof using a new high-performance waterproof roofing system. 🏠

The original cupola had reached the end of its serviceable life, so we designed, manufactured and installed a bespoke replacement, featuring:

✅ Double-glazed safety glass
✅ Hardwood construction
✅ Traditional detailing to match the character of the property
✅ Improved thermal performance and weather resistance

Alongside the new cupola, the flat roof was fully recovered, providing a durable, long-lasting waterproof finish and completing the transformation. 🔨

The result is a stunning new cupola that preserves the building’s traditional appearance while delivering the benefits of modern materials, energy efficiency and expert craftsmanship. 👌

A recently completed heritage roofing and restoration project in Stirling carried out by The Edinburgh Cupola Company.

The works involved the complete renewal of the roof coverings using a carefully selected blend of reclaimed natural slates chosen by the client to create a traditional, established appearance across the roofscape whilst remaining sympathetic to the character of the property.

The project included extensive leadwork throughout, including lead valleys, chimney flashings, dormer flashings and weathering details, all completed using traditional methods and detailing.

We also constructed a new flat roof area and manufactured and installed a bespoke timber cupola, carefully designed to complement the existing building and sit naturally within the original roofscape.

From sourcing reclaimed slates to carrying out the specialist leadwork and bespoke joinery, every aspect of the project was completed with a focus on traditional craftsmanship and preserving the character of this beautiful Stirling property.

A fantastic project for the team and one we are extremely proud to have delivered.

This was a substantial project involving the complete renewal of the roof covering, leadwork and cupola, helping secure the building for many years to come.

Works carried out included:

✔ Complete strip and renewal of the existing roofing system

✔ New breathable roofing membrane throughout

✔ Reclaimed Scotch slates to the front and rear elevations

✔ New Cupa Heavy H3 natural slates to the internal roof slopes

✔ New 3-layer felt system to the central gutter section

✔ New lead-lined cupola platform

✔ New lead watergates

✔ New lead cappings to wall heads and parapet details

✔ Comprehensive renewal of leadwork throughout

✔ Manufacture and installation of a brand-new traditional timber cupola

This week’s theme seems to be the smaller rooflights and cupolas. ✅

Not every project is a giant cupola overlooking Edinburgh’s skyline — sometimes it’s the smaller projects that make the biggest difference.

The existing rooflight had reached the end of its serviceable life after years of exposure to the Scottish weather. Our team carefully removed the original structure and installed a bespoke replacement rooflight complete with modern double-glazed units and traditional lead detailing.

One of the biggest advantages of upgrading older rooflights is the significant improvement in thermal performance. Modern double glazing helps dramatically reduce heat loss while still allowing natural daylight to flood the space below, creating a brighter, more comfortable living environment.👏

The finished result provides improved energy efficiency, enhanced weather protection, and a clean, modern appearance while remaining sympathetic to the character of the building.

The original cupola had reached the end of its lifespan, with deteriorated timber, failed glazing, and ongoing water ingress issues affecting the structure.

We carefully dismantled the existing cupola and manufactured a brand new traditional replacement, designed to retain the original character while improving durability, weather protection, and energy efficiency.

A huge transformation whilst still keeping the traditional character of the property and Edinburgh roofscape.👏

A small job to finish off the Friday for the team at The Edinburgh Cupola Company. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

These bespoke traditional-style rooflights were manufactured with double glazed units for improved thermal efficiency and heat retention, while also incorporating traditional lead flashing methods throughout.

The new rooflights replaced an existing aluminium rooflight system which, unfortunately, had been causing ongoing leaking issues within the property.

The client wanted to return to a more traditional and proven detailing method, resulting in a much cleaner finish and a far more reliable long-term roofing solution.✅

A great little project completed by the team.👏
