🧳 Just back from holiday? Make sure bed bugs haven’t travelled home with you! 🛏

Bed bugs can hide in suitcase seams, clothing and bags. Whether you’ve stayed in a luxury hotel, holiday park or Airbnb, bed bugs don't discriminate and are not a reflection on the cleanliness and hygiene of your environment.

When you arrive home:

🔍 Check suitcase seams and pockets
🛏️ Avoid putting luggage straight onto beds
🧺 Wash and dry clothing on the hottest setting suitable
👀 Look out for bites, tiny dark spots or shed skins around the bed

If you suspect you’ve brought home some unwanted passengers, getting advice early can prevent a small problem from becoming a much larger infestation.

🛏️ Why are multiple bed bug treatments so important?

➡️ The top photo was taken before the first treatment

➡️ Although the mature bugs have gone, eggs and newly hatched bed bugs still remain

🛏️ Bed bug eggs are protected by their outer casing and will likely survive the initial insecticide treatment. They will then hatch days later, which is why a single visit may appear successful before activity suddenly returns.

🗓 Follow up treatments are carefully timed to target newly hatched bed bugs before they mature and begin laying more eggs, breaking the life cycle properly.

⚠️This is also why completing every scheduled treatment and following all preparation and aftercare advice is essential. Seeing activity between visits doesn’t necessarily mean the treatment has failed... it demonstrates exactly why a full treatment programme is needed.

🐝 Wasp nests aren’t always easy to spot!

➡️ Many people expect to see a large, obvious nest hanging from a tree or roof... But wasps often build their nests in hidden, enclosed spaces.

Common nesting places include:

✅️ Loft spaces and roof voids
✅️ Wall cavities and air bricks
✅️ Under roof tiles, fascias and soffits
✅️ Inside sheds, garages and outbuildings
✅️ Underground in old rodent burrows
✅️ Inside compost bins or dense hedges
✅️ Beneath decking
✅️ Around window frames or behind external cladding

The nest itself may be completely out of sight, so the main sign to look for is a steady stream of wasps repeatedly entering and leaving the same small gap.

Other signs can include:

🐝 Increased wasp activity around one area
🐝 Wasps appearing inside upstairs rooms
🐝 A faint scratching or buzzing sound from a wall or ceiling
🐝 Wasps disappearing beneath roof tiles or into brickwork
🐝 Chewed wood around fences, sheds or garden furniture

⛔️ Avoid blocking the entrance, as trapped wasps may find another route and sometimes into your home.

➡️ Wasp nests often begin very small in spring but can expand rapidly throughout the summer, sometimes containing thousands of wasps by the time they are noticed.

Common signs include:

• Regular wasp activity around roof tiles, vents or gaps
• Wasps repeatedly entering and leaving the same point
• Scratching or buzzing sounds inside walls or ceilings
• Increased numbers appearing inside the property

🐝 Treat a nest as soon as you discover it, before the problem gets too big 🐝

⚠️ Never attempt to disturb or remove an active nest yourself, especially one of this size! Wasps can become highly defensive when their nest is threatened.

🔎 On arrival, we carried out a full survey before reaching for any insecticide.

🐁 The investigation led us to a dead rodent inside a wall cavity, along with the entry point it had used to get in!

Instead of simply treating the visible flies and hoping for the best, we:

🔎 Identified the true source
🧤 Removed the dead rodent
🛠️ Proofed the access point
🌿 Avoided unnecessary chemical treatment

Problem solved at the source, with steps taken to help prevent it happening again 🙌

This is exactly why surveys and Integrated Pest Management are so important. Treating what you can see may provide temporary relief, but finding out why it is happening is what creates an effective, lasting solution.

🧳 Travelling This Summer? Don’t Bring Bed Bugs Home! 🛏️

⚠️ With the summer holidays approaching and more families heading away, bed bugs are more likely to hitch a lift in luggage, clothing and personal belongings.

➡️ Bed bugs are not linked to poor hygiene and can be found anywhere people stay, including hotels, holiday parks, hostels and holiday rentals.

🔎 When you arrive, carry out a quick check:

✅️Keep luggage off the bed and soft furnishings while you inspect the room
✅️ Check mattress seams, labels and piping, particularly around the head of the bed
✅️ Look behind the headboard and around the bed frame
✅️ Check nearby bedside furniture and upholstered chairs
✅️ Watch for live insects, pale shed skins, tiny white eggs, dark spotting or small blood marks on bedding

⚠️ Think you’ve found signs of bed bugs?

➡️ Avoid unpacking your belongings or moving them around the room. Take clear photographs, notify the accommodation provider immediately and request a different room well away from the affected area, not directly next door, above or below it.

🏠 Before bringing your luggage back inside your home:

✅️ Inspect suitcases and bags carefully, paying close attention to seams, pockets and zips
✅️ Unpack away from bedrooms and soft furnishings where possible
✅️ Place washable clothing directly into sealed bags before taking it to the washing machine
✅️ Wash and tumbledry items using the hottest settings permitted by the care label
✅️ Vacuum luggage thoroughly and immediately empty the vacuum contents into a sealed outdoor bin
✅️ Store suitcases away from bedrooms once checked and cleaned

Bed bugs can be extremely difficult to eradicate without the correct knowledge, equipment and treatment plan. We do not recommend attempting to treat an infestation using shop bought sprays, smoke bombs or other home insecticide products. These can scatter the bed bugs into other areas, interfere with professional treatments and expose occupants and pets to unnecessary insecticides.
