Out with the old, in with something a little more modern! 🔥

Yesterday’s job was a complete change of style for this customer's living room.

We removed the old, traditional open gas fire and fireplace and replaced it with this stunning Elgin & Hall Hartley 600 Micro Marble Gas Suite.

Quite a difference, isn't it? 👀

The old fireplace had plenty of character, but the customer fancied something a bit more contemporary, without losing that cosy feel of having a real fire.

The Hartley 600 was a great choice. Clean lines, a beautiful micro marble finish and a much more modern look that completely changes the appearance of the room.

The surrounding walls and flooring are still to be finished, but you can already see how different the room looks!

At Wickenden Chimney Sweeps, we're not just about chimney sweeping and wood burners. We also carry out fireplace installations, helping customers find something that suits their home and their style.

🔥 Another Wood Burning Stove Installation Completed! 🔥

Another installation completed by Wickenden Chimney Sweeps, fitting this fantastic Ecosy+ Panoramic 5kW Wood Burning Stove.

This DEFRA-approved, Ecodesign-compliant log burner is a great choice for homeowners looking for an efficient, modern wood burning stove with a large viewing window.

The Ecosy+ Panoramic 5kW features:

✅ 5kW heat output – ideal for heating a range of living spaces.

✅ DEFRA approved – suitable for use in smoke control areas when burning permitted fuel.

✅ Ecodesign compliant – designed for cleaner, more efficient burning.

✅ Large panoramic glass – offering a fantastic view of the flames.

✅ Slimline design – a wide stove with a shallow depth, perfect where space is limited.

For this installation, the stove sits on a sleek black hearth with a dark tiled heat shield, creating a stunning contrast against the natural timber wall.

There’s a difference between sweeping a chimney and doing the job properly. 🔥

At Wickenden Chimney Sweeps, every job gets the same attention to detail, whether I’m carrying out a £65 chimney sweep or a complete stove and fireplace installation.

A standard chimney sweep is £65, and it’s far more than simply putting a brush up the flue.

Every sweep includes:
✔️ Professional rotary power sweeping
✔️ Appliance & flue inspection
✔️ Glass cleaned
✔️ Firebricks, baffle & door seals checked
✔️ Draught check
✔️ Advice on fuel, maintenance and performance
✔️ Sweep certificate issued for your records/insurance

I’m a HETAS Registered Sweep & Service Technician and HETAS Registered Installer, so if I spot something that needs attention, you’re getting advice from someone who also works on, services and installs these systems.

We also carry out wood-burning and multi-fuel stove installations, chimney lining and complete fireplace installations, all completed to the same standard and at competitive prices.

I’ve built Wickenden Chimney Sweeps around a pretty simple idea: do good work, charge people fairly, and put my name behind every job.

Not every fireplace needs a chimney, a liner or a load of logs stacked next to it. 🔥

We recently fitted this Axon Madrid Limestone Fireplace with a Pryzm Devotion 16" Inset Electric Fire in Brass.

What I like about this one is that we started with absolutely nothing, just a blank chimney breast. No old fireplace to remove and no existing opening to work with.

The customer went for the brass finish rather than the usual black, and I think it was a great choice. With the limestone, dark green wall and the built-in downlights switched on, it has a proper traditional feel without looking old fashioned.

Sometimes a room is just missing a fireplace.

This one definitely isn't anymore. 👌🔥

🔥 Not every fireplace needs a fire… apparently!

Today’s installation was this Axon Nelson Limestone Fireplace, fitted as a purely decorative feature in a customer’s newly renovated dining room.

I did, of course, try my best to convince them that a solid fuel stove would look lovely sitting in there… but you can’t win them all. 🔥

No stove, no fire and no chimney involved with this one, just a really smart limestone fireplace to finish off the room and give it a proper focal point.

And to be fair… it looks cracking! 👌

Really lovely customers to work for as well, which always makes the job that little bit better. Most importantly, they’re extremely happy with the finished result.

A proper day on the tools! 🔥🔧

Not one, but TWO multi-fuel stove installations completed in the same house today.

The Woodford Chadwick 12 went into the huge entrance hall fireplace, followed by the Atlantic Pearl 5 in the lounge.

Both fitted into the property’s existing original brick fireplaces, keeping all that character while bringing them back into use.

Safe to say we earned our dinner tonight. 😂

Two stove installs. One house. One very long day. 😂🔥

It’s been a busy one today at Wickenden Chimney Sweeps, with two new multi-fuel stoves installed and commissioned in the same property.

In the entrance hall we fitted a Woodford Chadwick 12 Multi-Fuel Stove into that huge original brick fireplace, a big stove for a big space, and it looks right at home in there.

Then onto the lounge, where we installed an Atlantic Pearl 5 Multi-Fuel Stove into another lovely original brick fireplace.

I’m a big fan of working with what a property already has rather than covering everything up. The brickwork and character were already there, the new stoves just bring the fireplaces back into proper use.

Two completely different stoves, two fireplaces back up and running and, most importantly, one very happy customer.

And one very tired Jack heading home. 😂🔥

This is what you want to see after a chimney sweep. 👀

A before and after look inside an open-fire chimney we recently rotary power swept.
The first photo shows the soot and deposits that had built up across the inside of the flue. Once properly swept, the second photo gives a much clearer view of the brickwork and flue way underneath.

This is exactly why we use rotary power sweeping on every chimney we sweep. The rotating head works its way around the flue, removing the build-up and giving the chimney a thorough clean.

With an open fire, everything disappears up the chimney where you can’t normally see it. These camera shots give you a pretty good idea of the difference a proper sweep can make.

Two rooms. One stove. 🔥

The customer wanted a wood burner in both the lounge and the dining room. Rather than installing two separate stoves, we opened the fireplace right through and installed this Chesneys Salisbury Double-Sided 8.1kW.

One fire can now be enjoyed from either side of the chimney breast, with the stove sitting right at the heart of both rooms.

And it’s a seriously solid stove. The Salisbury is a substantial bit of kit, and with 8.1kW of output, there’s plenty of heat coming from it too.

We finished the opening with a simple black chamber, matching trim and a honed granite hearth, keeping everything around the stove clean and understated.

The first photo shows what was there before, quite a change from an open fireplace serving one room to a double-sided stove serving both.

A cracking project to work on and something a little different from our usual installations. 🔥
