Here’s something we rebuilt which is a bit different to the usual so worth a photo or two.
We were asked to remove some very rotten sleepers and hold back the earth somehow. The customer didn’t want a wall built . The cost of new sleepers concreted into the ground was too expensive so this was a cheaper solution. We used thick posts and dug them 600 mm below ground level and concreted them in.
A Damp proof membrane was used to keep the soil off the wooden joists ( not in photos) and then the soil backfilled onto the DPM. 8x2 inch joists were used on top of each other and screwed in. Quite labour intensive as it was all done by hand but a tidy finish.
On this occasion we weren’t doing the whole landscaping but simply replacing the sleepers as they were.
