Finally after many months of designing, selecting glass, cutting & grinding, foiling, soldering and polishing Mr Bear is finally finished. Immense thanks to Suzannah Jenkins for her patience in putting up with me and guiding me through the process. It’s been another amazing experience gradually improving my skills and confidence all in such a calm and chilled environment. If you are interested in learning stained glass techniques then contact Suzannah Jenkins as she does introductory day courses.

They are Median wasps! Dolichovespula media

We went back to get better photos and catch one for identification.
Info from https://bwars.com/content/beginners-bees-wasps-ants-dolichovespula-media-median-wasp

Median wasps are the second largest British social wasp species. D. media was first recorded in 1980 in Sussex, since when it has spread over all of England and Wales, and much of southern Scotland. It has a short life cycle, with nests finishing in August.

Nests are aerial and generally exposed, usually hanging from trees or bushes.

Key features

The workers generally resemble other yellow and black social wasps
almost black colour forms are often encountered with greatly reduced yellow banding on the abdomen.
All castes have yellow markings on the top and front-sides of the thorax which are said to resemble the NIKE logo, or when viewed from above look like two back-to-back, or mirrored, number 7’s.

Lifted the base of this Bay to even it up as it was a bit wonky on this side. Wondered why there were so many wasps buzzing around……luckily I spotted it and didn’t try trimming the branch it’s on otherwise I’d have had the nest on my head! 😬😱

Client wanted some herbs by the kitchen window/door so Tim Gorringe made some powdered coated steel and oak planters to match the big ones we’d recently done. Wall hung so easy to pick and makes a feature of this blank wall. Really pleased with how they’ve turned out. Planted with Rosemary, Tarragon, Parsley, Oregano, Sage & Thyme
