💦🌿 Not All Pond Leaks Are Where You Think!

What was initially reported as a waterfall leak turned out to be something quite different!

Pond leaks aren't always obvious, and sometimes the smallest issues can easily go unnoticed.

By observing the system while running, I spotted a very small low point in the feeder pond liner that had gone unnoticed by the clients. This was allowing water to escape and was the actual cause of the problem.

Once identified, I repositioned and securely anchored the liner, avoiding the need for extensive repairs.

I also took the opportunity to strip down and thoroughly scrub the waterfall, alongside cleaning and servicing the pump.

Sometimes it's the smallest details that make the biggest difference. Understanding how water moves through a system and knowing what to look for can save unnecessary work and expense.

🍂 Autumn Show — over and out! 🍂

What a great two days of talking, engaging and selling!

After a slower day yesterday, today certainly came to the rescue. It was fantastic to meet so many faces, both new and returning. 🌿

It was especially lovely to hear your feedback on our Pond in a Pot displays and to hear how well your plants are doing. 🪷💚

A huge thank you to Anglo Aquatic Plant for brilliantly supplying us, and an even bigger thank you to everyone who came along, stopped for a chat, asked questions and supported us over the weekend.

We really appreciate it — see you at the next one! 🌱🐸

🌿💧 Wildlife Pond Vegetation Clearance – Before & After 💧🌿

A big transformation on this established wildlife pond.

Dense reeds and marginal vegetation had gradually taken over, closing in the pond and hiding much of the water. The aim of this clearance was to open the pond back up while retaining established vegetation and valuable habitat for wildlife.

A substantial amount of excess growth was cut back and removed, reopening the banks and creating a much clearer separation between the marginal vegetation and the central water lily. The difference in the open-water area around the lily is particularly noticeable.

A heavy covering of duckweed was also reduced, opening up areas of the water surface. Conditions were particularly challenging, with the pond currently sitting at less than half its normal water capacity following the exceptionally dry summer, along with a considerable accumulation of old leaf litter and organic material beneath the surface.

Moving forward, continued duckweed management, removal of accumulated leaf litter and organic material, and potentially introducing some water movement or aeration would all help improve the pond's condition and reduce future duckweed growth.

And all that vegetation had to go somewhere… so the client has gained the beginnings of another rather substantial compost heap! 😂🌿

A very satisfying day's work and a huge difference — a much tidier, more accessible and considerably more open pond, while still retaining its natural character. 🌱💧

A long old commute to work today… all the way to my back garden 🤣

A slightly different project today — a new raised pond for my parents, taking a little inspiration from my Silver-Gilt winning show pond, Water’s Edge, from the South of England Show.

Built from treated timber sleepers, fully lined and finished with mitred timber capping, with a small fountain adding movement to the water.

It just goes to show you don't need a huge garden or lots of excavation to introduce water into a space. Even a relatively small raised pond can create a great little feature and bring a completely different feel to a corner of the garden. 🌿💧
Still some planting and finishing touches to come, but the main build is complete.
