Project Spotlight | Semaphore Tower, Chatley Heath

Some buildings are more than bricks and mortar — they're part of our shared heritage.

Semaphore Tower at Chatley Heath is a Grade II* listed building and the only surviving semaphore tower of its kind in Britain.

Valley Builders was appointed by The Landmark Trust to undertake the restoration, combining specialist conservation work with carefully considered internal refurbishment.

The works included brickwork repairs and repointing, roof coverings, chimneys, rainwater goods, windows, shutters, doors and joinery, alongside extensive internal works.

We're particularly proud that the project was recognised as a Regional Winner in the Best Residential Conversion or Alteration to an Existing Home category at the LABC South East Awards 2023.

Projects like this require more than technical expertise. They require patience, craftsmanship and respect for the original building — ensuring its character is protected while giving it a future.

A privilege to have played our part in preserving this remarkable piece of Britain's architectural heritage.

For this project, Glow Lighting supplied the kitchen pendant lighting, while artwork by Paul Guthrie and framing by Kings Framers helped add character and individuality to the finished interiors.
