π¨ THIS COULD HAVE ENDED IN DISASTER! π¨
π₯ WHEN WAS YOUR GAS FIRE LAST SERVICED?
Take a close look at these photographs. π
This is a REAL job we attended, and what we discovered was genuinely frightening!
The customer explained that they only used their gas fire once or twice a year and hadn't had it serviced for a very long time.
β οΈ What did we find?
β Severely corroded gas supply pipework hidden behind the fire.
β The copper pipe had deteriorated to the point where gas was escaping freely.
β Gas was escaping into the chimney area and venting up the flue.
π¨ IMMEDIATELY DANGEROUS (ID) π¨
The pipework had effectively become an open gas pipe!
Thankfully, the gas appeared to be escaping up the chimney. However, had it accumulated and encountered an ignition source, the consequences could have been catastrophic β potentially even a house explosion.
The customer had absolutely NO IDEA!
π¬ "We hardly ever use the fire, so surely it doesn't need servicing?"
This is exactly why regular servicing is so important!
Even when your gas fire isn't being used, the supply pipework can remain live, and corrosion can continue unnoticed.
π§ A proper gas fire service isn't just a quick clean!
Depending on the appliance and manufacturer's instructions, it involves inspecting concealed components and pipework, checking for gas leaks, cleaning burners, inspecting the flue and ventilation, and testing essential safety devices.
β
Our advice?
Have your gas fire serviced annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer, following the manufacturer's recommendations.
A fire that appears perfectly fine could be hiding a serious danger behind it.
