Old Potterton Promax removed today after a PCB failure, this was caused by the wrong Fuse being used at the spur, a short circuit on the old fan meant the boiler drew a huge spike in current from the mains power supply, instead of the 3A fuse blowing at the Spur, the PCB blew instead.
Rather than throwing money at the 16 year old boiler, we decided it was best for an upgrade, so in went the new Baxi 800 range!
The old boiler had a few things that needed altering to make it meet current standards, firstly the old condensate pipe was going out the wall and down into the external drain in 21.5mm overflow 😅 new 40mm pipe was installed to help avoid freezing and to meet regs. Then the new boiler was fitted with a Magnetic Filter as standard to help maintain the boilers already impressive 10 year warranty!

Final checks done and tested, hot water and central heating back up and running 🔥

Just a little job done for lowtidecoffee_seaham last month. The back room is being used to prep food so needed to have somewhere to wash food and dishes! With no existing cold water in that zone, we had to run a cold feed from existing kitchen through seating area and into through to the new sink. As this had the potential to look like a bit of an eyesore, I spoke with the owners to discuss the best route and also how to make it look presentable.
Always enjoy doing proper plumbing jobs especially when you can make it look as good as this. With the use of brass munson ring clips to support the copper pipe in the eating area, gives the workmanship that industrial look, taking the edge off the copper pipework!

With using an instantaneous water heater to supply the hot tap, a PRV (Pressure Relief Valve) was used to ensure the heater doesnt become a bomb 😅

‼️ Customer Announcement ‼️
Booking jobs in to an already packed diary means not being able to take other work on, meaning a loss of a potential customer, which is no worries at all given that the diary is full, but when people cancel that work, not only have I lost that job, but also that other potential customer I had to turn away.
It happens, it’s part of being self employed unfortunately, but to protect my income and livelihood i’ll be introducing a deposit up front on any work over £500 of 20% of up front quote. Not only does this prevent me from losing money should i be dropped in it, but it also means less stress and rushing around trying to find other work. Obviously there are legitimate reasons for cancellations or for rearrangements which i’ll be more than happy to listen to, but for the most part anyone cancelling work will lose their deposit. If like most cases the work goes ahead, then the deposit amount will be taken from final bill leaving you with less to pay at the end. I’ve avoided doing this for 6 years now despite it being a common occurrence, however I have a house to pay for and a baby on the way. Needs must as they say! Hopefully any existing and future customer can understand this, if anyone has any questions please feel free to get in touch 👍🏻

Busy busy busy few weeks on multiple projects, had Lewis with me most of the time as he’s now finished his first year at college with Distinctions and Merits in his exams, come on loads the last 9/10 months in both Plumbing work and manual labour confidently using dangerous power tools without hesitation.
