Geoff Hamilton was the gardener who inspired me to garden almost thirty years ago, and with BBC Radio Ulster I was given the opportunity to meet his son, Nick, and visit Barnsdale Gardens. An experience I will never forget.

I love my little radishes! They’re a great veg to grow with children because they are ready to eat after four weeks. There are lots of different colours and you can grow winter radishes too like the Spanish radish which is black on the outside and white on the inside. Bake them in the oven and they have a lovely little kick off them. French radishes are more elongated with a white tip and are lovely pan fried. Or if you would like to make your own kimchi, the. Try growing Daikon radishes.
If you don’t have a lot of room, then grow your radishes in pots or window boxes.
The variety I used for this recipe were Scarlet Globe.

This chive pesto is really moreish. I use sunflower seeds when making my pesto as they are a lot cheaper than pine nuts. If you are not vegan, then use Parmesan in place of the nutritional yeast.
Use this pesto in sandwiches or stir through pasta.
