It is with great sadness that we share the sudden passing of our dear friend and colleague, Liam Hughes.

Liam dedicated over 40 years of service to Western, becoming a familiar and much-loved figure among colleagues, customers and suppliers alike. He was one of life’s true characters, known for his friendship, kindness, humour and unwavering commitment to the business.

Liam made an immense contribution to Western over four decades, building lasting friendships and relationships that will never be forgotten.

His passing leaves a huge void within our company, and he will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.

Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies are with his wife, Kate, his children, grandchildren, wider family circle and friends at this very difficult time.

Rest in peace, Liam. ❤️

We were pleased to welcome H&M Machines to our headquarters as their Dutch production team spent the day capturing our new timber frame line in action. 🎥

Supplied by H&M Machines, the line has become an important part of our manufacturing capabilities, and the visit was a great opportunity to showcase not only the machine itself, but Western as a whole.

We’re looking forward to seeing the finished video and sharing it when it’s ready!

From factory floor to finished facility. 🏫

A look behind the scenes at one of Western’s recent SEN modular education projects, showing the journey from manufacture through to completion.

📍 Factory floor
The modules are carefully prepared, fitted out and disassembled ready for transportation to site.

🚚 Installation on site
The modules are delivered and assembled on site, bringing the building together as designed.

✨ The finished facility
The completed SEN school provides two dedicated classrooms, sensory rooms and a purpose-designed outdoor space, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for pupils and staff.

It’s a great example of how modular construction can take a project from a controlled factory environment to a fully operational education facility on site.

The staff and management of Western Building Systems are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Fr Mark O’Hagan, P.P. Ardee, formerly of Coalisland.

Fr Mark holds a very special place in the history of Western and in the hearts of the McCloskey family. He joined Western Building Systems in 1986 as the first member of our administrative staff and remained a much-loved friend of the company throughout the years.

His friendship with the McCloskey family continued long after his time with Western, and he was there to share in many of the family’s most important occasions, including officiating at family weddings.

We will remember Fr Mark with great fondness and gratitude for the friendship, kindness and warmth he showed to everyone at Western over so many years.

Our deepest sympathy goes to his mother Irene, his brothers, sister and the wider O’Hagan family at this very sad time.

May he rest in peace.

Project Handed Over | Hans Price Academy

We’re pleased to share that the new modular Resource Base at Hans Price Academy in Weston-super-Mare was successfully delivered and handed over last week.

Procured by North Somerset Council through the SWPA Modular Buildings Framework, the project provides a purpose-built, single-storey space designed specifically for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), creating a welcoming, inclusive and flexible learning environment.

The new building includes:

• 5 dedicated Resource Rooms, including a room with kitchenette
• 4 Intervention Rooms
• Offices and entrance lobby
• Sensory Room
• WC facilities and plant areas
• New power, data and intruder alarm services
• Dedicated outdoor space with grass and tarmac areas
• Associated hard and soft landscaping
• Secure fencing throughout the external areas

We’re particularly proud to have delivered another purpose-built SEN building, helping to respond to the growing demand for specialist educational provision. The new Resource Base has been designed to provide a high-quality environment that enables students to learn, develop and thrive.

We now look forward to returning for the official opening event and seeing the building fully in use by the Hans Price Academy community.

Every business has a beginning. Ours began with two people.

Some foundations are laid in concrete.

Others are built over a lifetime.

This Friday, we celebrate something very special at Western Building Systems – 50 years of marriage between Martin and Nora, the founders and first ever directors of our company.

While Western will celebrate 44 years of trading this October, its story began with Martin and Nora and the partnership they built together. From those beginnings came a business that has grown considerably over four decades, developing into the Western we know today.

Martin and Nora established the values, relationships and culture that remain at the heart of the business. They took the risks, made the difficult decisions and built something that could continue beyond themselves. Although less involved in the day-to-day running of Western today, they remain very much part of the business – offering their experience, advice and guidance whenever needed. And that legacy continues, with the second generation now fully involved and the third generation waiting in the wings.

• 50 years of marriage.
• 44 years of Western.
• Generations of people.
• And a legacy that continues to grow.

So, from everyone at Western – past and present – thank you.

Thank you for the vision, commitment, hard work and sacrifice that created the business we have today, and for continuing to share your knowledge and experience with us.

Most of all, congratulations Martin and Nora on 50 wonderful years together.
The foundations were laid half a century ago. And we are still building on them today.

Meeting the Growing Demand for SEN Classrooms 🏫

This week, Western has successfully handed over new SEN classrooms for two local primary schools, helping to meet the growing demand for specialist educational provision.

These projects highlight the important role that modular construction can play in delivering much needed SEN accommodation efficiently and with minimal disruption.

SEN spaces need to be carefully considered around the pupils who use them. Our modular approach provides the flexibility to create purpose-designed, high-quality learning environments that support both pupils and teaching staff.

At Western, we’re proud to work alongside the Education Authority to deliver additional classroom capacity and help create the specialist spaces required across our schools.

Our mission is clear: to help ensure every child has a space where they can learn, feel supported, and have the opportunity to thrive at school. ⭐
