With wedding season in full swing, we take a look at our refurbishment and extension project at Category A-listed Megginch Castle.

Here, a former lean-to Camellia house on the south elevation of the 18th century ballroom was removed and replaced with a new extension positioned on its original footprint. The extension draws inspiration from a historic greenhouse that was previously located in the same area, expressed through a materials palette of glazing and a durable slate roof.

The extension and regenerated ballroom now support the castle’s use as a contemporary wedding and events space while celebrating its historic significance.

Bright and airy interiors and modern living spaces define this contemporary terraced home, which we submitted for planning this week.

The design features generous glazing throughout, including a projecting zinc-framed bay window drawing natural light into the vaulted upper-level living space.

Planning applications submitted for alterations and extension to a traditional two-storey stone dwelling in Milnathort and a new house on the adjacent plot, repairing a gap in the streetscape.

The new home reinstates the historic building line, restoring the rhythm and enclosure of the original terrace. Natural stone, timber and zinc respond to the character of the street while expressing a contemporary architectural identity.

Alongside this, the neighbouring house is sensitively reconfigured around the changing levels of the site, reconnecting the main living spaces with the elevated garden through a modern rear extension.

Megginch Castle ballroom restoration and extension - sensitive adaptation and sustainable regeneration of a Category A-listed building at a Perthshire estate.

This project reimagines an underutilised 18th century structure as a fully functioning and thriving wedding venue, balancing heritage conservation principles with modern performance and comfort.

We delivered a full internal refurbishment, upgraded services and facilities, enhanced thermal performance, and a new extension replacing a lean-to Camellia house.
