300 sqm stripped and reslated in 21 days? Aye, we’ll give it a go — and somehow make it look effortless!

The boys were moving that fast we’re convinced they briefly achieved flight. Slates going on so perfect the quarry phoned asking who calibrated them. Courses so straight NASA asked if they could use the roof for satellite alignment!

All joking aside, we’re genuinely proud of the work completed here and the application shown by the boys throughout.
The finish is exactly what we aim to deliver for every client — clean lines, precise coursing, and, as we’ve been told on numerous occasions, every slate has its place.

The roof now reads beautifully from the ground and will perform reliably for decades.

Quality workmanship, attention to detail, and a roof built to last — another project we’re proud to put our name to.

Thank you to Minhaj‑Ul‑Quran International for trusting us with this project — it’s been a pleasure delivering a roof of this standard for you.

It’s been a tough week on the tools. Stripping the roof meant working through heavy debris and old horsehair felt, and the warm weather didn’t make it any easier. Credit to the boys — first class all week and never a single complaint.

We started by getting all the slates up onto the scaffolding, and with a helping hand we had that wrapped up in a day. From there, we moved onto grading the slates, one of the most important steps in any reslating job. Proper grading gives the roof a clean, uniform finish.

With this panel being a triangular shape, we pinged a line down the centre to achieve a symmetrical finish at each hip. As always, all hip cuts were completed using a slate guillotine for clean, accurate detailing.

One panel completed — onto the next one on Monday.

Keeping the progress going!

It’s been a hot one, but the team have been powering through. Plenty of water, plenty of sun cream and plenty of hard work.

Here’s a little sneak peek at how the job is coming along.

We’re delighted to get our teeth into this project. The team at Minhaj-Ul-Quran International (Bilal Mosque) have appointed us to carry out a full strip and reslate of the roof at Dura St, Dundee. The existing Welsh slates have become very soft over time, and many of the original nails have completely rotted away — a condition we call nail sick. We’re now stripping off the old roof covering and preparing to install new SIGA 35 slates, complete with zinc ridges at the hips and apex. Looking forward to sharing the progress as this roof gets the high‑quality upgrade it deserves.

When a vision becomes reality it can quickly turn into a real challenge. We were tasked with creating a perfect curved eyebrow finish using Tudor tiles — a material known for being unforgiving, inconsistent in shape and thickness, and notoriously difficult to cut. Most roofers would avoid attempting a curve with Tudors, never mind blending it seamlessly into bonnet hip tiles.

But our team refused to let the tiles win. Through precision, patience, and genuine craftsmanship, every tile was shaped individually to achieve a flawless flowing curve that sits naturally within the roofline.

A challenge designed to test us — and a reminder of why specialist roofing belongs in the hands of specialists.
