A late unwrapping of our design project submitted for planning over Christmas.

Aim Design have been working with our amazing clients at Moor of Rannoch Restaurant & Rooms to develop the ‘Deer Bothy’ - a new annex providing essential community amenities, employee accommodation and a high quality street food kitchen & courtyard focusing primarily on sustainably sourced local venison.

Situated in the remote heart of the Grampian Mountains, the annex will be sustainably fabricated off-site using a series of shipping containers finished externally in locally sourced timber.

A large photo voltaic array at roof level will provide all the energy required with surplus energy subsidising existing demand.

Watch this space for further news as this project progresses or why don’t you book to stay at Moor of Rannoch. What an experience. And the food.. wow!

We are delighted to have received a DIA award for Monifieth Activity Centre for Community Impact and a commendation for Walker Luxury Jeweller for Best Interior Design at the Dundee Institute of Architects (DIA) awards on Friday night. Princes Street Extension was also shortlisted for Best Domestic Extension and Aim Design’s Ryan Smith was presented with the Doug Reid Student Award.

Aim Design were delighted to receive a Dundee Heritage & Environmental Trust Conservation Award at the Dundee Civic Trust Awards ceremony last night for our project, Walker the Jeweller, located in Dundee’s historic Union Street.

Some lovely words about the project from the Dundee Civic Trust Awards judges:

“The judges felt this conservation project exhibited an exceptional quality of finishes, indicating a deep understanding of the materials and existing detailing. There is very fine timber and metalwork detailing and careful repair work and lighting really shows off the interior. The work to the cornice and pilaster plasterwork is excellent and demonstrates that a careful repair (still thoughtfully showing the signs of aging, for instance, in the capitol of the pilasters and slight variations in the near perfect lines of the cornice) reveals both the patina of the historic and the care of the skilled craftsman. An air source heat pump is discreetly accommodated with other services behind careful services detailing. Lighting is optimized for purpose. The use of the building for a high end business and the significant investment in the building shows confidence in the city centre as a location for such businesses into the future and that has to be good for the sustainability of the historic environment.”
