14 ohms.
That's the reading between this building's steel frame and the main earthing terminal — which means the steel is in solid contact with earth. IET guidance uses around 22,000 ohms as the screening figure. We got 14.

So it's an extraneous-conductive-part, and it gets main protective bonded to the MET. Reg 411.3.1.2.
Bonding isn't about giving the steel a route to earth. It's about removing the difference between the steel and every other bit of earthed metalwork you could touch at the same time. Under a fault they rise together. No difference, no shock path.
Tagged and labelled so nobody removes it in ten years' time.

Electrical work across Dundee and Angus.

Phone goes at 7am. Dental spa, machine's dead, clinic's got patients booked in all day.

That's the job — not the big rewires, the ones where someone's business stops until you turn up. Old unit disconnected, new one wired in and tested, doors open on time.

Commercial callouts across Dundee and Angus. If your kit goes down, we don't leave you waiting a week.

Found this mid fault-find in Dundee — a switch-fuse that's overheated so badly the terminal's scorched and the insulation's burnt back to bare copper ⚠️

This one wasn't just feeding the house — it's the main supply into a Tesla Powerwall battery system too, so a failure here doesn't just trip a circuit, it takes out backup power for the whole property.

Heat damage like this almost always starts as a loose or failing connection, gets worse under load, and eventually turns into exactly what you see here.

Fix was a full switch-fuse and mains tails replacement — fresh copper, properly torqued connections, tested and safe. No shortcuts on anything feeding a property's main supply.

If your switch-fuse or meter tails have never been checked, or you've got solar/battery kit relying on an old supply, get it looked at before it looks like this.

This is what going in properly looks like — a consumer unit install in Dundee, mid-fit ⚡

Every circuit gets its own RCBO rather than sharing protection — so one fault trips one circuit, not the whole board. Small detail, big difference.

Before and after: a full consumer unit change in Dundee ⚡

Swipe through to see the difference.
The old board had circuits mixed together with no real separation — one fault and everything's off. The new one splits lights, boiler, sockets and cooker onto their own RCBO-protected circuits, plus a surge protection device fitted, all tested and certified to the current wiring regs.
If your board's still the old style and you're not sure whether it needs looking at, send us a message — happy to take a look and give you a straight answer.

Old fusebox out, fully certified consumer unit in ⚡ Here's what a proper fuseboard change looks like in Dundee.

Every circuit split out and RCBO-protected individually (lights, boiler, sockets, cooker all separate), a surge protection device fitted, and everything tested and certified to the current wiring regs. If a fault trips one circuit, the rest of the house stays on — not something the old board could do.

If your consumer unit still has the black rocker switches, or you're just not sure how old yours is, send us a message. Happy to have a look and tell you straight whether it needs doing.
