Kilmac was proud to support Robertson Construction Tayside and Dundee Women’s Hub in the creation of a quiet memorial garden in Dundee — a safe and welcoming outdoor space designed to support reflection, healing and wellbeing.

Identified through Dundee City Council’s Wishes initiative, the project transformed an unused area into a calm and accessible environment for women accessing the hub.

Working collaboratively with partners, Kilmac provided labour, operational support and practical assistance to help bring the space to life.

The completed garden will provide users with an opportunity to connect, reflect and engage in positive outdoor activity, supporting both wellbeing and community connection.

This project is another example of how collaboration can create meaningful and lasting social value within local communities.

As part of our ongoing commitment to developing future talent within the construction industry, Kilmac recently supported a one-week work placement for a senior pupil from Greenfield Academy, Dundee.

The placement provided hands-on, site-based experience, giving valuable insight into the day-to-day operations of a groundworks and civil engineering contractor. Throughout the week, Mackay was introduced to a range of roles across the business, helping build a broader understanding of how different teams contribute to successful project delivery.

A key focus of the placement was time spent on site, where Mackay gained practical experience supporting engineering activities. This included assisting with setting out levels for new drainage installations, observing the installation of sewer systems, using a total station, and gaining exposure to drone surveying techniques.

“I had a great time at Kilmac seeing all the different people and jobs that they need to do in a construction company. My most interesting time was spent on site where I seen how they put sewer drains in to the ground and I helped to set out the levels for the new pipe and use a total station, and also did some drone surveys. It’s really made me think that being a Site Engineer would be a good job for me.”

This experience has helped Mackay better understand potential career pathways within the industry, particularly in engineering, and highlights the value of early engagement in supporting informed career decisions.

At Kilmac, creating opportunities like this is a key part of our social value approach — helping to inspire the next generation while providing meaningful, real-world experience of the construction sector.

A Kilmac team was proud to support PLUS Perth in their plans to transform a long-neglected area within Ropemakers Close — once known locally for anti-social behaviour — into a safe and positive community space.

Working alongside Perth and Kinross Council and local partners, our team carried out clearance works and installed secure fencing and access, helping lay the foundations for what will become the new Ropemakers Nature Garden.

This project is a great example of what can be achieved through collaboration. What was once an overgrown and challenging environment is now on a clear path to becoming a welcoming, accessible area for the community — while also enhancing a key city centre link used by visitors to Perth Museum and the Stone of Destiny.

At Kilmac, this is what social value looks like in practice — using our skills and resource to make a tangible difference.

We look forward to seeing the space develop over the coming months.

A Kilmac team has given a helping hand to support a Perth charity in transforming a former drinking and drugs den into a safe space.

Kilmac has been working closely with Barnardo's to support individuals engaged in their employability programme, providing valuable opportunities for engagement, learning and exposure to live construction environments.

The visit included a full site induction, an overview of Kilmac’s works and programme, followed by a site tour and a practical CAT & Genny demonstration — giving participants real insight into day-to-day site operations.

These experiences are key to helping individuals understand the wide range of career opportunities within groundworks and civil engineering, while also building confidence and practical knowledge.

The feedback has been extremely positive, and we look forward to continuing to support participants as they progress through their programme.

A great example of social value in action — creating opportunities and opening doors into the industry.

This initiative directly supports Kilmac’s social value commitments by:
Supporting employability pathways for individuals facing barriers to work 💼
Providing meaningful engagement with industry professionals 🤝
Promoting awareness of opportunities within construction 🚧
Strengthening partnerships with organisations such as Barnardo’s 🤍

Great to support Conlan last week on a one-week work placement with Kilmac alongside his Modern Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering at Dundee and Angus College.

Over the course of the week, Conlan gained real hands-on experience across site engineering, including setting out, QA processes and working with equipment such as the Trimble Total Station and rotating lasers.

It’s exactly the type of exposure that helps strengthen learning from college, giving young people the confidence and practical skills needed to progress within the industry.

The feedback from site has been excellent:

“Conlan has been incredibly keen this week on site and has been quick to pick up new information and skills. For someone at his age it's rare to see.”

“Conlan has knocked it out the park this week, completed his first resection on the Trimble with no errors today. I'd be happy to work with him again.”

At Kilmac, supporting early careers and creating opportunities like this is a key part of our social value commitment—developing the future workforce and strengthening the industry for the long term.

We’re delighted to be sponsoring Bears Big Adventure.

An exciting art trail coming to Perth and Kinross in Summer 2026, bringing together creativity, community and purpose.

The trail will see a series of uniquely designed bear sculptures placed across streets, parks and public spaces, transforming the area into a vibrant open-air gallery for everyone to enjoy.

At Kilmac, supporting initiatives like this is exactly what social value is about—creating opportunities for communities to come together, celebrating local talent and contributing to something with a lasting positive impact.

We’re pleased to share that our bear will be located within the Riverside Gardens National Heather Collection, a fantastic setting that will form part of the wider trail experience.

Importantly, the project will also raise vital funds for YMCA Tayside, helping to support youth work programmes that empower and uplift young people across the region.

We’re proud to be part of it and look forward to seeing the trail come to life in summer.
