Brand new bathroom install from this past autumn. Ceiling, walls and wainscoting panels were primed and painted with the Luja brand, a durable moisture resistant bathroom paint from Tikkurila. The customer chose Calke Green from the Farrow and Ball colour range for the wainscoting and Slipper Satin as a complement on the walls. Window shutters were kept and restored to keep a rustic feel.

Customer wanted a dropped border or datum line below the ceiling. This reflects more light, creates the illusion of greater space and provides a cleaner contrast between the wall colour and ceiling white. Lines must be properly measured, levelled and taped to create an even border.

Here are photos from a bathroom renovation which needed plaster repairs on ceiling and around toilet. New plasterboard was cut, screwed and patched, blending new board to old plaster. I do this kind of repair quite often, restoring to make old like new again.

Here is a renovation of walls and ceilings after a new kitchen was installed. Once the repairs were made I put a fresh coat of white on the ceiling. Customer then chose Picture Gallery Red for the walls, providing great contrast with their new modern but rustic kitchen. A few before photos mixed in with the final result.

Here are photos from the restoration of the walls of a lounge where there was woodchip wallpaper. Wallpaper was removed to uncover the plaster beneath. A proper skim coat wasn't necessary in this case, so the wall blemishes could be spot filled and blended in. Walls were then sealed, primed and painted. Customer chose Inchrya Blue, a lovely dark blue gray. Darker colours can create a dramatic effect. They enhance the features of a room and react to the changing light (scroll down for the before photos).

Customer project from this past autumn where walls and ceiling were painted the same colour. Customer chose a bright teal, nicely highlighting the light woodwork, artwork and furniture. Fireplace also stripped clean of old paint. Saturating a room with the same colour is becoming a popular choice with customers. Brighter and darker colours can work - don't be afraid to go bold! 🙂

Here is some renovation work from this past autumn on a hall and stair. The woodwork required a full sand to remove drips and runs. In addition, an old topcoat of water based paint had been applied over the existing oil and was peeling off (water over oil never sticks!). After sanding it was filled, primed and painted with two topcoats. I used Benjamin Moore Scuff-x which is a commercial grade paint with excellent adhesion and durability. The stair spindles, posts skirting and doors now look like new. Velux window was also completely restored, customer thought they might need to replace.

I haven't posted in a while but here are a couple of jobs from late summer. The first is a masonry wall that was crumbling and needed a lot of work - scraped, filled, primed and painted. After lots of filler the final application of paint was done with Emperor paint, possibly the best masonry paint on the market, as it is breathable so will outlast the cheaper brands.
The second job is a repaint over white with brighter colours and a white border added just below the ceiling. Taped off and hoped for no bleed-thru when removed! Customer pleased with the results.

Ceiling repair from earlier in the year. Crack repaired where board had loosened. Reinforced board, patched it to blend in, primed and painted. Also adding corner coving along ceiling. Cut and glued, a bit tricky to notch around curtain hooks. Primed and painted. Now bright white and crack free!
