We have a roof! 🙌🏻

Great to see this barn conversion taking shape. Today we’re starting the roofing work, beginning with the central flat roof before moving on to slate the main roof.

This one’s going to be a cracker when it’s finished. Keep an eye out for progress updates as we bring it all together.

Would you believe the roof shown in the “before” photos cost this elderly couple twice as much as the finished roof in the “after” photos?

We were contacted after they noticed several things didn’t look right with their recently installed flat roof and unfortunately, a closer inspection revealed a catalogue of poor workmanship.

The rubber membrane hadn’t been bonded correctly, the trims hadn’t been properly secured, there were unnecessary joints in the tiles, and the ridges didn’t even cover the nail holes.

Once we began stripping the roof, the full extent of the problem became clear. The original roof hadn’t been properly removed. Instead, the top layer of felt had been taken off, a vapour barrier rolled over the remaining surface, and the loose stone chippings simply swept underneath. OSB boards were then laid directly on top in an attempt to create a base for the rubber membrane leaving the finished roof with more waves than the sea in the distance!

We had no option but to strip everything back and start again properly. New insulation, new decking, a fully bonded rubber roof, new tiles and new ridges, giving this couple the peace of mind that their home is now properly protected.

Sadly, rogue traders continue to take advantage of people. Always obtain two or three quotations, research the company and ask to see photographs of their previous work. Check that they have the correct insurance, provide written guarantees and can supply genuine customer testimonials and any accreditations.

As the customer, you have every right to ask for this information. Do your checks and don’t get caught out.
