Thinking about plug-in solar? Take a moment to consider electrical safety.
The prospect of generating electricity at home is increasingly attractive to many households. However, plug-in solar products should not be viewed simply as another appliance that can be connected without considering the wider electrical installation.
The electricity generated can flow back through domestic circuits, making the suitability of the home's wiring and protective equipment an important consideration.
Electrical Safety First has published a report examining the safety of plug-in solar panels for UK homes, and the IET has issued advice urging households to check electrical safety before using plug-in solar products.
Before connecting plug-in solar, make sure your home's electrical installation is suitable and obtain professional advice where required.

At Erudite Training, we believe that keeping up to date with developments in technology, guidance and electrical safety is essential.
The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) is urging the public to consider the electrical safety of their homes before purchasing and using emerging ‘plug-in’ solar products, as the Government moves to make these devices available in UK shops in the near future.
