Nature's Upholstery at its best!
What a beautiful, sunshine day after a day of almost constant snowfall. It's on days like this, I'm happy to be alive.
A beautiful walk with my daughter after a morning of clearing snow.

With followers around the globe, I thought I'd pass this on in case anyone knows of someone looking for a beautiful home on Vancouver Island, BC Canada. Unfortunately, their buyer pulled out and it's having a domino effect, so they've had to pull out of their house purchase too.

I had front row seats for my day 2 ferry trip, which allowed me to sit back, drink my coffee and enjoy the views before a busy day of basket weaving.
All the bark splitting and prep work yesterday meant we could get right into setting up the base for our baskets before building up the sides with various varieties of willow and cedar bark, grasses, leaves and waxed threads, before finishing off the rims of our completed baskets.
Joan kept us amused with her own quirky descriptions of the processes and her lovely choc chip, banana muffins, as well as her extensive knowledge of all the natural materials and designs. I think some of the ladies even came up with their own designs inadvertently, but they were very effective.
Something else to add to my retirement hobby list.
It was really nice to meet up with at last, having followed her for many years now and always missed her classes on previous trips to Canada. Hopefully it won't be the last time.

Day 1 with and we learned how bark and other natural weaving supplies were processed and harvested for weaving. We cut and split our red cedar to make our basket spokes, stripped willow bark for drying, to be used at a later date and made cordage out of day lily leaves and other foraged materials.
We were in awe of the samples that Joan brought to show us and inspire our own basket designs.

Early enough to catch the start of the Saturday Market and watch the wildlife on the mudflats of the harbour. Watch out for the water fountains!
At the end of the day I visited a friend in her hilltop home with its stunning view to the mountains, still covered in snow. We were joined by deer and birds of prey soaring above us.
I was then treated to a spectacular sunset on my ferry ride home.
