It’s always lovely to finish a project and know our clients are happy with their new space… but little gestures like this really do mean a lot. 🤍

A few very thoughtful gifts from some of our wonderful clients recently.

We’re incredibly lucky to work with such lovely people and to be trusted with creating spaces that become part of their homes.

Thank you so much; we really do appreciate it. 🥂

The Malaga research continues… 🌿☀️

This time, it’s all about the plants.

We’ve also been spending some time at Jardín Botánico Histórico La Concepción, looking at how plants can completely shape the feel of an outdoor space.

It’s not just about choosing plants that look good. We’ve been taking inspiration from the structure and height of different planting schemes, how plants are layered, what thrives in full sun versus shade, and how climbers can be used to soften walls and structures.

Then there’s the relationship between planting and water: ponds, reflections, greenery spilling over edges and the way established planting can make a space feel like it’s always been there.

Of course, the climate in Malaga is very different to Yorkshire! But the principles of great planting design are the same: structure, balance, texture, height and choosing the right plant for the right place.

Another day of ‘holiday research’ complete 😂

Apparently, we don’t know how to switch off… 😂☀️

We might be away in Malaga, but somehow the holiday has turned into a bit of a research and inspiration mission.

We’ve been looking at everything from different types of stone, porcelain and marble to paving, steps, outdoor buildings, roofing and drainage systems.

Even the water features have had the full inspection, particularly how they’ve been designed to allow nature and planting to take over and become part of the finished space.

There’s so much inspiration in the way outdoor spaces are designed here: different materials, textures, levels and clever little details that work perfectly with the climate and surroundings.

So yes… technically we’re on holiday.

But when you design and build gardens for a living, staring at paving and discussing drainage counts as sightseeing. 😂

We’ll be coming home with plenty of photos, ideas and inspiration… as well as hopefully a bit of a tan.

Big isn’t always better!

The little details, the ones you may not even notice at first, are often what make a garden special.

The lighting built into the landscaping.
The way materials meet.
The direction of the paving.
The planting that softens the harder finishes.
The lines, levels and finishing touches that bring everything together.

For us, those details aren’t an afterthought. They’re considered from the very beginning of the design.

Because sometimes, it’s the smallest details that make the biggest difference.

What’s the first detail you notice in a garden?

Here’s a design we’ve been working on recently.

The brief was to create a garden that felt softer and more interesting than the typical straight lines of a new-build house. Curved pathways, generous planting, distinct seating areas, and a statement sculpture all work together to give the garden its own identity.

We especially love how the planting wraps around the space; it’ll only get better as it matures.

Now the question is… would you go for curves in your garden, or are you firmly team straight lines?

Nothing makes us prouder than hearing how happy our clients are with their finished space.

A lovely review from a client we've had the pleasure of working with across two of their homes. We couldn't ask for a better compliment than being trusted to come back and do it all over again.

Thank you for choosing Bradley & James. 🤍
