Nine times out of ten, the leak isn't the roof. It's the chimney.

That stuff on the left is a mortar fillet. Sand and cement, packed in where the chimney meets the tiles. It was the cheap way of doing it and it's still what a lot of roofs have.

Problem is mortar's rigid and a roof isn't. It moves with heat, cold and wind. So the fillet cracks, water runs straight down the crack and into the brickwork - and you get a damp patch on a bedroom ceiling with no idea where it's coming from.

On the right is how it should be done. Lead, dressed to shape, chased into the brickwork and pointed in. Front apron, side soakers, back gutter. Nothing rigid, nothing to crack.

Done properly, lead outlasts the roof.

This is what we turned up to.

Old worn-out roof, tiles well past it, water getting in and doing damage inside. The homeowner had left it a bit too long - which is what happens when you ignore a roof problem.

And this is what it looks like when we're finished. Completely stripped back. New felt, new battens, new tiles.

Choosing who to trust with your roof isn’t easy, especially after a bad experience.

After being let down by a previous roofer, Emily chose Apex to replace her main house roof, two lower slate roofs and a flat bay window roof.

She shared these words about our team:

“They are an excellent, honest and trustworthy company who I highly recommend”

Thank you, Emily, for trusting us with your home and taking the time to recommend us. It means a lot to the whole team.

That stuff holding your ridge tiles on is just sand and cement.

It was the standard for decades. Problem is it's rigid, and your roof isn't - it moves with heat, cold and wind. So the mortar cracks, water gets behind it, frost expands it, and eventually a ridge tile lets go. Usually in a gale, usually onto someone's car.

The left-hand photo is what that looks like after thirty-odd years.

The right is the same hip line with a dry ridge system. Every tile mechanically fixed with a clip and screw, ventilated underneath, no mortar to crack. Nothing to maintain.

We fit it as standard on every re-roof. It's not an upgrade or an extra - it's just how it should be done now.

Had a customer come to us last week saying he'd been quoted £14,500 for a new roof.

We went out, had a look, and saved him THOUSANDS - same job, same materials, same guarantee.

That's a huge difference for the exact same work.

This is why we always tell people to get 3 quotes. Not because we're cheap - because there's cowboys out there quoting whatever they think they can get away with.

Just finishing this one off in Retford today 👇

5 packs of tiles. Full strip. New felt, new battens, new lead work around the chimney. 2 days on site. 6 men on the job - no subbies, all our own lads.

That's why our prices are honest - because we don't have middlemen taking a cut.

If you've been quoted something mad for your roof, drop us a message. Happy to give you a straight second opinion, no pressure.
