Little garden revamp completed recently 🌿👌

Nothing too extravagant on this one, but sometimes keeping things simple is all you need! Porcelain slabs, top-of-the-range artificial grass and a bit of decorative stone to finish it off.

Finally got my own extension watertight! 🙌
The roof is on and all loaded up onto the scaffold 😅. Got the peak completed, then felted and battened the whole roof ready for the tiles.

The tiles are going to take a few weeks to come in, once they are here, we’ll get the roof tiled and the windows fitted as soon as they arrive.

It’s been a proper graft getting to this stage, between customer jobs, but seeing it finally watertight is a massive milestone! 👌

Extensions — We Love Them! 🧱🏡

Here’s the footing for a new extension we’re doing for another local firm.

This one went in during some red hot weather ☀️, but that wasn’t going to stop us! We got stuck in, the dig-out was already done, and we got the footing in and ready for the concrete pad to be poured. Once that’s done, we’re ready to start bringing this single-storey extension up. 🧱💪

There’s nothing better than seeing an extension go from a hole in the ground to the first courses of brickwork and watching it all start to take shape.

Another job underway and another opportunity to show what First Rate Brickwork is all about — good workmanship, attention to detail and getting the job done right. 👌

More updates coming as we get this one up and really start to see the extension come together!

Been absolutely flat out the last month or so, so I’ve been a bit quiet on here! 😂

But there’s been plenty going on behind the scenes on my own extension. We’ve got the floor in, the second floor built and the brickwork is really starting to take shape.

Also got the corbels built — those little details that might not seem like much, but really make the difference and finish the brickwork off nicely 👌

Next job… getting the roof on! 🏠🔨

Not long now before we’re getting this one watertight and really seeing it come together.

This job was one of those! 😂

After we’d dug out the previous job for the customer, they decided they’d like some retaining steps and paving added in as well. And here at First Rate Brickwork , we’re always happy to oblige! 💪

But… digging this one out by hand was hard graft! 😂

We finally got it all dug out and the footing poured, then got the steps built and the paving laid. 🧱🔨

There’s still a bit more to do in this garden, but it’s starting to come together nicely now and you can really see the difference. 👌

See before and after 🤩

This project involved removing and bricking up an existing window, leaving both the inside and outside looking as though it had always been part of the original house.

Our work included:
✅ Protecting all floors and surrounding areas before starting.
✅ Carefully removing the existing window and window board.
✅ Taking the internal plaster back to the brickwork so wall starters could be installed.
✅ Blocking up the internal leaf.
✅ Toothing out the brickwork on the right-hand side beyond the ¾ bats to ensure the new brickwork bonded in correctly.
✅ Installing wall starters on the left-hand side, as the conservatory was too close to the reveal to tooth into.
✅ Fully insulating the cavity before rebuilding the external brickwork.

Due to the conservatory, the customer wanted the existing lintel and soldier course left in place, as the lintel extended behind the conservatory and the leadwork tied into the soldier course. We worked around this, ensuring a strong, neat finish while meeting the customer’s requirements.

The internal blockwork has been left ready for plastering once it has fully dried, making it ready for the next stage of the project.

As always, we finished with a full clean-up inside and out, hosing everything down and leaving the property spotless—like we’d never even been there.

🔥 Another project completed by First Rate Brickwork 🔥

This job was completed during one of the hottest weeks of the year! We were brought in to carry out the brickwork and structural preparation ready for a new roof and bi-fold doors.

Our work included:
✅ Removing the existing roof.
✅ Removing the existing windows and doors.
✅ Removing the old window and door lintels.
✅ Raising the ceiling height by 150mm, which meant adding four courses of brickwork to the outer leaf and two courses to the inner leaf.
✅ Installing a brand-new heavy-duty lintel, cavity tray and weep vents.
✅ Carefully toothing out and rebuilding the brickwork around the window and door openings for a seamless finish.
✅ Structurally preparing the opening ready for the installation of the new bi-fold doors.
✅ Installing a temporary weatherproof roof to protect the inside of the property until the new roof could be installed.

While the roof was off, the customer mentioned the room had always been cold. After investigating, we found large sections of missing cavity insulation. We removed what we could access and replaced it with premium insulation throughout the accessible areas, helping to significantly improve the property’s thermal performance.

As always, all waste was removed from site, everything was left clean and tidy, and the project was left ready for the next trade to continue.
