A record-breaking month for road repairs in 🚧

Our highways crews fixed 4,750 potholes in July the highest monthly total in the past five years 🙌

That’s more than 1,000 extra repairs compared with July last year, when 3,583 defects were fixed.

Crews have been making the most of the dry weather to carry out repairs across the county, using a mix of techniques to fix roads more quickly and effectively.

And they’re not slowing down. Work will continue throughout the summer holidays to tackle as many potholes as possible 💪

This is part of our plan to repair 40,000 potholes by March 2027, backed by an extra £15 million investment in Staffordshire’s roads over the next two years.

We know potholes are a major concern for residents. We’re focused on getting repairs done and making our roads better for everyone.

Work starts next week on a major highways improvement scheme in Kidsgrove 🚧

From Monday 13 July, we’ll begin a £700,000 project to improve traffic flow, make journeys safer and create a more accessible town centre.

The nine-week scheme, delivered with Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council through the Government’s Town Deal programme, will introduce two new one-way systems and deliver a range of improvements, including:
✅ Better traffic flow around Station Road, Meadows Road and Market Street
✅ New and improved pedestrian crossing facilities
✅ Upgraded signs, streetlights and road layouts
✅ Repairs to drainage and kerbs
✅ Improved parking and loading arrangements

These improvements are part of a wider programme to support the regeneration of Kidsgrove and help create a town centre that is easier and safer for people to visit, shop and travel around.

We know roadworks can cause disruption, and our teams will work hard to complete the scheme as quickly as possible.

Temporary traffic lights, lane closures and signed diversions will be in place where needed, while access to homes and businesses will be maintained wherever possible.

We said it was temporary. We meant it.

Following the stabilisation of energy markets, we're pleased to announce that our temporary Energy & Bitumen Cost Surcharge has now been removed in full.

When exceptional market conditions forced us to introduce the surcharge earlier this year, we made a commitment that it would only remain in place for as long as it was absolutely necessary. From 1st July, that commitment has been honoured.

Although many of our manufacturing costs remain above historic levels, we've chosen to absorb those additional costs as the market continues to settle, allowing us to pass the full benefit back to our customers.
