🌲 Specialist Forestry Works at Callander Park
Taylor Trees Ltd is currently undertaking a challenging and environmentally sensitive project at Callander Park on behalf of Falkirk Council, removing 300+ Beatle infected spruce trees from the site.
With the works taking place in close proximity to the Antonine Wall, protecting the surrounding environment, wildlife and potentially significant archaeological remains has been a key priority from day one.
Working closely with Falkirk Council, Historic Environment Scotland, NatureScot, Forestry and Land Scotland and Ecos Ecology, we have ensured all necessary permissions, licences and surveys were completed before works commenced, including:
Scheduled Monument Consent
SFO badger licence
Felling licence
Bat and bird surveys
Modern equipment, minimal impact
For this project, we are putting our new 16-tonne excavator and grapple saw to work.
The grapple saw allows us to selectively fell the smaller trees while keeping machinery movement and ground disturbance to an absolute minimum. The resulting branches and tops are then being strategically placed to create a substantial brash mat across the working area.
The larger edge trees are subsequently felled onto this brash mat. This technique helps to:
✅ Minimise ground puncture and soil disturbance
✅ Reduce the risk of damage to underlying archaeological features
✅ Protect surrounding habitats and wildlife
✅ Allow the works to be carried out safely and efficiently
✅ Minimise the overall footprint of the operation
This project is a great example of how specialist machinery, experienced operators and careful planning can come together to deliver complex forestry works while protecting the environmental and historical importance of the site.
At Taylor Trees Ltd, we’re proud to combine modern forestry technology with responsible land management to deliver challenging projects safely, efficiently and with minimal impact.
