As part of wider government action to protect consumers, “rogue traders like rip-off locksmiths” have been referenced in a recent UK Government press release.

At a time when household budgets are under pressure, this is a significant step — it shows the issue is now being recognised at government level, with action to “rewire enforcement to clamp down” firmly on the agenda.

Alongside our ongoing engagement with the Department for Business and Trade, it’s encouraging to see this issue gaining attention at government level. However, meaningful action and enforcement are still needed.

I've just taken a call from a client who had been charged £400 for a lock change.
She wanted to know how much I would have charged as she suspected that she had been overcharged.
I told her £80 - £90.
She has now gone to trading standards.
National companies overcharge considerably. Any company advertising a locksmith for £39, is too good to be true and will have hidden charges.
CHOOSE A LOCAL LOCKSMITH, not one that says "operates locally".
