📍 North Baddesley - from overgrown to open 🌱

This garden in North Baddesley had become difficult to use, with overgrown hedging, brambles and long grass taking over much of the space.

After clearing the garden and laying a fresh new lawn, the result is a clean, practical outdoor space that's ready to enjoy.

Not every landscaping project needs to be a complete redesign. Sometimes a straightforward simple transformation can make the biggest difference.

Whether you need a new lawn, planting, patios or a full garden makeover, our landscaping team can help.

👷 Project Spotlight | Chelsea Garden Addition:
Part 2: Meet the Team

In July we shared the garden transformation for this project in North Southampton. This week, we'd like to introduce some of the people who made it happen.

Over 10 weeks, Bob and Joe were on site bringing this Southampton garden to life. Working through four weeks of relentless February rain before the weather finally turned, their dedication, craftsmanship and attention to detail helped transform a challenging sloping garden into a beautiful outdoor space our customer can enjoy for years to come.

The stunning cascading water feature and wildlife pond were expertly created by our specialist team, Dave and Jack, adding a peaceful focal point that complements the natural woodland feel of the garden.

Overseeing the project was Project Manager Sam Foster, who worked closely with the customer to refine the design and managed every stage of the build, ensuring the highest standards were maintained from start to finish.

Great gardens don't happen by chance. They are the result of talented people, years of experience and a shared commitment to quality.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in creating this fantastic transformation. 🌿

🌳 August Garden Care – Looking After Your Garden Through the Seasons

After a long, dry summer, August is all about maintaining structure, colour and plant health while preparing for the months ahead.

✅ Keep borders looking their best with regular weeding, deadheading and seasonal tidying
✅ Apply mulch where needed to help retain moisture and improve soil health
✅ Lightly trim lavender and other finished flowering shrubs to keep them neat and compact
✅ Monitor newly planted trees, shrubs and perennials which can be vulnerable during prolonged dry weather
✅ Check ponds and water features, removing excess growth and debris where needed
✅ Collect seeds or take cuttings from favourite plants to enjoy again next year
✅ Don't be alarmed if lawns have browned off during the dry weather. Established lawns are often dormant rather than dead and usually recover when rainfall returns.

A beautiful garden doesn't happen by accident. Our Garden Maintenance Team cares for established gardens throughout the year, taking care of all those seasonal jobs that are easy to miss when life gets busy. Here are a couple of examples of larger established gardens we care for.

Whether it's regular visits or tailored seasonal care, we help gardens look their best through every season.

🏡 Looking for bigger changes? Our Landscaping Team can help with everything from planting schemes and pergolas to patios, water features and complete garden transformations.

📅 Both teams book several weeks ahead, so it's worth getting in touch early to discuss ongoing garden care or future projects.

🖤🤍 Nature's little surprise!

Our Garden Maintenance team spotted this stunning Jersey Tiger moth while working in a customer's garden today.

Despite looking like a butterfly, it's actually a day-flying moth. Its bold black and cream stripes make it one of our most eye-catching native insects, and if it opens its wings you'll be treated to a flash of brilliant orange!

It's a lovely reminder that a well-planted, wildlife-friendly garden doesn't just look beautiful – it also provides a home for some amazing creatures.

Have you spotted one in your garden this summer? We'd love to see your photos in the comments! 🦋🌿

🎉 A very happy 80th birthday to our founder Norman Hambrook today!

Still very much at the heart of Hambrooks and closely involved in the day-to-day running of the business he started back in 1970.

From one of his earliest nursery purchases in Titchfield—now home to our garden centre—to developing our Curdridge site, which is the base for our landscaping and maintenance teams, Norman has helped shape Hambrooks into what it is today.

Yesterday, he celebrated with his daughters Lydia and Carla (and of course Buddy his beloved dog) in our Titchfield coffee shop, surrounded by cake and cupcakes - a lovely moment marking the occasion in a place that has been part of his journey for many years.

As part of his birthday, Norman is also donating an £80 Hambrooks Garden Centre gift voucher to a local school, supporting their work in renovating their school garden.

From starting the business over 55 years ago to still being actively involved today, we’re incredibly proud of everything he’s built, and the team, customers, and community who continue to be part of it.

Wishing you a wonderful birthday from all of us at Hambrooks 💚

🌳 July Garden Care – Managing Growth & Heat
With temperatures climbing again, gardens need a slightly different approach to stay healthy and looking smart:
✅ Lawns should be mown regularly but with blades set higher to avoid stress and scorching
✅ Edging, mowing and general tidying make a big difference to the overall look of the garden
✅ Borders benefit from regular weeding and deadheading to keep everything looking fresh
✅ Mulching helps retain moisture and reduces the need for constant watering
✅ Light pruning of shrubs and cutting back early perennials keeps plants under control without causing stress
✅ Newly planted areas need consistent watering and monitoring during warm spells
Thinking about a bigger change?
🏡 Our landscaping team can transform your space — from new patios and decking to full redesigns, planting and feature areas
🌿 Our maintenance team keeps everything looking its best with regular or seasonal visits — especially important during fast growth and hot weather
📅 Summer is a busy time, so it’s worth booking ahead to secure your regular slot or project start

🌿 From plant choice to planting day – Lyndhurst new border project 🌿

Ashley, one of our Designer/Project Managers, has been working with Mr & Mrs Lampitt in Lyndhurst to plan a semi shaded planting scheme around their BBQ area.
Rather than choosing from a brochure, the clients, met Ashley at our Titchfield Garden Centre to pick their plants in person. It meant we could shape the scheme around what they liked, while making sure everything was right for the conditions.
Four trolley loads later, we’ve got a strong mix of evergreen, shade-tolerant and semi-shade planting ready to go.
Next step this week is soft landscaping, where the team will set everything out properly on site and bring the scheme together. We look forward to seeing the finished result.

This is where a garden really starts to feel finished — not just built, but properly planted.

A lovely garden upgrade completed in Locks Heath this June 🌿✨
Mr & Mrs Marshall had a garden that was very uneven and the borders were completely overtaken by herbaceous plants and weeds (including a LOT of wild garlic). They wanted something simple to maintain and enjoyable — a space that would actually make them want to sit outside again.
Over two weeks we:
• Levelled the whole garden
• Installed new raised beds with sleepers for easier planting
• Laid a fresh, level lawn with stepping stones
• Added a slate‑chipping area for pots and a practical laundry space
• Built a new bench area with a pergola
• Replanted the entire space with a cleaner, simpler scheme
The difference is huge. The Marshalls are over the moon with the result and can’t wait to enjoy it this summer.

Some projects feel extra special.
Mr and Mrs Tubb, long-standing Hambrooks Garden Maintenance customers, visited our Titchfield Garden Centre to choose a stunning olive tree to celebrate a very special milestone - Mr Tubb’s 60th birthday.

They then asked Gary, our Garden Maintenance Manager, to bring the idea to life by planting the tree and creating a feature area within their garden. Gary redesigned an existing lawned circular space, transforming it into a striking focal point using Derbyshire fawn stone chippings also from Garden Centre , with the olive tree proudly taking centre stage.

The result is a beautiful, timeless feature - a perfect birthday gift and a lasting reminder of a special occasion. It’s also a lovely example of how seamlessly our teams work together across Hambrooks to care for our customers and their gardens.
