🌿 A fresh new look for this Locks Heath garden

This garden has had a complete refresh, with new turf, smart metal-edged borders and around 70 new plants chosen for year-round colour, variety and wildlife interest.

The clients were closely involved in the planting, heading to our Garden Centre with Emily, their Project Manager, to choose the plants together. 🌸

Out front, the tired lawn has been replaced with artificial grass, creating a smart, low-maintenance finish.

A great transformation by Dave & Jack and Emily, completed in just 7 days. 🌱

🍂 October Garden Care – Preparing for the Seasons Ahead

October is one of the most important months in the garden. As growth begins to slow, now is the time to tidy, reshape and prepare gardens for the winter months ahead.

✅ Tidy and reshape hedges and shrubs after the growing season, checking carefully for any signs of nesting wildlife

✅ Prune ornamental fruit trees and fruit bushes where appropriate to maintain health and shape

✅ Cut back herbaceous perennials that have finished flowering while leaving selected seed heads for wildlife interest

✅ Clear fallen leaves from lawns, borders and pathways before they build up

✅ Improve beds and borders with mulch or organic matter to protect soils over winter

✅ Assess lawns after the summer drought and carry out renovation work where needed

✅ Review planting schemes and identify areas that could benefit from seasonal enhancements or future improvements

A fresh start for the O'Dwyers' garden in Farnham 🌱

This project included a complete re-turf of the lawn, together with a new full-length border featuring hedging and carefully selected planting. The new border adds texture, height and seasonal interest, helping to transform an empty new-build garden into a more established and welcoming outdoor space.

With the hot, dry summer taking its toll on many lawns, autumn is the ideal time for a turf refresh. Cooler temperatures, improved rainfall and warmer soil conditions help new turf establish quickly and create a healthier lawn for the seasons ahead.

🌿 Garden Find: Do you know what this is? 🌿
Our maintenance team spotted this rather impressive structure while out working in a garden this week!
It’s a large papery wasp or hornet nest, made from chewed wood and plant fibres. By late summer, nests can become surprisingly large as the colony reaches its peak.
So, what should you do if you find one in your garden?
🐝 Don’t disturb it – wasps and hornets can become defensive around their nest.
🚶 Keep your distance – particularly children and pets.
⚠️ Don’t try to remove it yourself.
🏡 If the nest is close to your home, shed, seating area or somewhere people regularly pass, contact a professional pest controller for advice.
As the weather gets colder, the colony will naturally die off.
One important thing to look out for: Asian hornets can also build large nests in trees and other vegetation. If you spot a dark hornet with yellow legs and a distinctive yellow/orange band on its abdomen, take a photo from a safe distance and report a suspected sighting through the official Asian hornet reporting system.

📍 North Baddesley - from overgrown to open 🌱

This garden in North Baddesley had become difficult to use, with overgrown hedging, brambles and long grass taking over much of the space.

👷 Project Spotlight | Chelsea Garden Addition:
Part 2: Meet the Team

In July we shared the garden transformation for this project in North Southampton. This week, we'd like to introduce some of the people who made it happen.

Over 10 weeks, Bob and Joe were on site bringing this Southampton garden to life. Working through four weeks of relentless February rain before the weather finally turned, their dedication, craftsmanship and attention to detail helped transform a challenging sloping garden into a beautiful outdoor space our customer can enjoy for years to come.

The stunning cascading water feature and wildlife pond were expertly created by our specialist team, Dave and Jack, adding a peaceful focal point that complements the natural woodland feel of the garden.

Overseeing the project was Project Manager Sam Foster, who worked closely with the customer to refine the design and managed every stage of the build, ensuring the highest standards were maintained from start to finish.

Great gardens don't happen by chance. They are the result of talented people, years of experience and a shared commitment to quality.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in creating this fantastic transformation. 🌿

🌳 August Garden Care – Looking After Your Garden Through the Seasons

After a long, dry summer, August is all about maintaining structure, colour and plant health while preparing for the months ahead.

✅ Keep borders looking their best with regular weeding, deadheading and seasonal tidying
✅ Apply mulch where needed to help retain moisture and improve soil health
✅ Lightly trim lavender and other finished flowering shrubs to keep them neat and compact
✅ Monitor newly planted trees, shrubs and perennials which can be vulnerable during prolonged dry weather
✅ Check ponds and water features, removing excess growth and debris where needed
✅ Collect seeds or take cuttings from favourite plants to enjoy again next year
✅ Don't be alarmed if lawns have browned off during the dry weather. Established lawns are often dormant rather than dead and usually recover when rainfall returns.

🖤🤍 Nature's little surprise!

Our Garden Maintenance team spotted this stunning Jersey Tiger moth while working in a customer's garden today.

Despite looking like a butterfly, it's actually a day-flying moth. Its bold black and cream stripes make it one of our most eye-catching native insects, and if it opens its wings you'll be treated to a flash of brilliant orange!

It's a lovely reminder that a well-planted, wildlife-friendly garden doesn't just look beautiful – it also provides a home for some amazing creatures.
