🚨 OPENED THE CEILING… FOUND A 20MM BOW IN THE STEEL! 😳

What started as an insulation check quickly became a serious structural repair.

❌ Inadequate insulation
❌ No proper ventilation
❌ Undersized steel bowing by 20mm

PERIOD PROPERTY | CEILING RESTORATION 🏛️

We’ve recently been instructed by a new customer, NM Drylining, to carry out the overskimming of these stunning period ceilings as part of the restoration of this incredible property.

Before any work began, an asbestos report was carried out and came back clear, confirming the existing ceiling panels were cement board.

With years of old distemper present, preparation was key. The ceilings were thoroughly prepared and primed using pink SBR to stabilise the existing surface, control suction and provide the correct background for our new plaster finish.

Once prepared, we carefully overskimmed each individual ceiling panel, working around the original timber detailing and decorative cornice rather than covering it — retaining the character that makes these period rooms so impressive.

A job where the plastering itself is only half the story. Knowing how to work with an existing building and preserve its original features is just as important.

Another fantastic period property for the R.A Restoration team and hopefully the beginning of a great working relationship with NM Drylining. 🤝

Not every job has to be a huge refurbishment to deserve the same level of care and attention.

We’ve recently started another project for one of our regular customers – and we truly appreciate the trust they continue to place in us. Repeat customers are the biggest compliment any business can receive. 🙌

This project involves removing failed plaster from a traditional cob wall and replacing it with a breathable lime plaster system.

The previous cement render had prevented the cob from breathing, trapping moisture within the wall. Over time, this caused the plaster to fail – a common issue when modern materials are used on traditional buildings.

We’re carefully removing the unsuitable materials and reinstating the wall using the correct lime products, allowing the building to breathe as it was originally designed to.

It’s always rewarding to help preserve these beautiful period properties using the right methods and materials.

We’re incredibly fortunate that our work takes us into some of the most unique and prestigious properties in the South West, and this project is certainly one we’ll remember.

🚧 Another exciting project underway! 🚧

We’re pleased to share the progress on our latest commercial refurbishment in the heart of Exeter.

As with many older buildings, an asbestos survey identified asbestos-containing materials within parts of the property. Rather than disturb the existing materials, we’ve chosen the safest and most responsible solution by leaving them in place and constructing new stud walls and ceilings, ready for plastering.

This method safely encapsulates the asbestos, helping to eliminate the risk of unnecessary disturbance while providing a fresh, modern finish for the new office spaces and veterinary practice.

At R.A. Restoration SW, we’re committed to doing every job the right way—not the easy way. Safety, quality and attention to detail are at the heart of everything we do.

🏗️ Our First Project Announcement! 🏗️

We’re excited to officially share the first project for R.A. Restoration SW!

We’ve now secured the contracts to carry out refurbishment works on this fantastic building in the heart of Exeter city centre, transforming it into modern office space alongside a brand-new veterinary practice.

This project will include the installation of two X-ray rooms, which is a first for our team, and we’re looking forward to taking on the challenge while delivering the high standard of workmanship we’re proud of.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us in getting to this stage. This is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to share our progress throughout the project.
