🌿 A Rooftop Space Designed to Make a Real Difference 🌿
The King's College Hospital rooftop Critical Care Unit garden continues to attract attention, and for good reason.
This world-first facility has transformed an unused rooftop into a fully operational outdoor extension of the hospital's Critical Care Unit, giving critically ill patients the opportunity to experience fresh air, natural daylight and the benefits of an outdoor environment while remaining connected to essential medical equipment.
Wallbarn was proud to play a key role in the project, supplying the fully Class A fire-rated decking substructure system that helped make this pioneering healthcare environment possible. Fire safety, long-term durability and compliance were critical requirements from the outset, and our specialist solution was designed to meet the demanding standards of a live hospital environment.
Projects like this demonstrate how innovative design, technical expertise and collaboration can transform underutilised rooftop spaces into something truly meaningful.
