7-METRE GARAGE ROOF REFURBISHMENT

The original roof had been lined with reinforced PVC sheeting rather than a purpose-designed roofing underlay. This type of material is more suited to temporary weather protection and had become brittle, torn and was falling apart beneath the tiles.

Once stripped, rotten barge timbers were also uncovered, confirming that this roof needed a proper rebuild—not another temporary repair.
The existing Quinn Locherne double-pantile roof tiles were carefully removed, checked and re-laid.

Work completed:
✓ New treated barge rafters installed
✓ New breathable roofing membrane
✓ New 50 × 25mm treated tiling battens, set out to the correct gauge
✓ Continuous over-fascia ventilation with eaves felt support trays, helping direct any moisture safely into the gutter
✓ Continuous mechanically fixed dry verges, giving both gables a sleek and secure finish
✓ New grey half-round ridge tiles fitted on a ventilated, mechanically fixed dry-ridge system
✓ Profiled ridge infills completing the dry-ridge system for a neat, high-end finish.

The result is a secure, ventilated and low-maintenance roof system, with mortar-free ridge and verge details built to withstand the weather.

🔥 CERTIFIED EPDM ROOF INSTALLATION BY

Did you know that DARV Construction are certified EPDM roof installers?

Having recently completed our EPDM installation certification, we were delighted to put our training into practice on this flat roof replacement project.

The client contacted us after experiencing ongoing water ingress, which had caused dampness and deterioration to the internal wall. Following a thorough inspection, we identified that the existing roof detail was allowing water to pe*****te at the wall junction.

To permanently resolve the issue, we carried out the following works:

✅ Reframed the roof structure.

✅ Extended and formed a new parapet detail over the boundary wall.

✅ Installed new OSB roof decking.

✅ Fitted a single-piece EPDM rubber membrane, fully bonded to the deck.

✅ Installed lead flashing into the gable wall for a watertight finish.

✅ Eliminated the weak points that had been allowing water pe*******on.

EPDM is one of the most reliable flat roofing systems available, offering excellent durability, flexibility, and long-term weather resistance. With a seamless membrane covering the roof area, the risk of leaks is significantly reduced compared to many traditional flat roofing systems.
The finished result is a clean, modern, low-maintenance roof designed to provide lasting protection for years to come.

If you’re going to cut into a roof — it has to be done right. No shortcuts. No guesswork.

Out with the old, undersized Velux windows and in with larger, top-hung units to completely transform this space.

The difference in headroom and natural light in both the office and ensuite is night and day.
