We collectively raised just over £96,000 last night at the Kids in Mind Charity Question of Sport Dinner. Thanks to everyone who attended and supported the evening.

Some highlights for us ...

The heartfelt speech given by the excellent Alistair McDonald;

The audio/visual tribute to our original guest host, the late great Kevin Keegan, supported by saxophonist Ross Cantrell’s live performance of Local Hero.

An unnamed gentleman, a third-party guest staying at the hotel, learnt of the evening’s focus and handed the team a £100 cash donation, saying the work resonated with him and his difficult upbringing.

The generosity and spirit of those donating auction prizes, and those folks who bid so generously.

On the afternoon of the KKS L**h Poznań S.A versus Sunderland AFC UEFA Europa League match, we’re delighted to support this fantastic restaurant, where food inspired by Chef Marek’s Polish heritage merges with local ingredients from the Wear and the Tyne.

Is this enough? It’s a start. But Help to Buy in some enhanced form needs ro return…

The UK’s new Your First Home scheme was announced today (26 Sep 2026). It’s an equity loan for first-time buyers looking at modest new-builds. Buyers only need a 2.5% deposit; the government covers 20% of the price, interest-free to start with, and the buyer buys that share back later. It’s aimed at people who can’t lean on the bank of mam and dad. There will be income, savings and price caps. Full details to come in the Budget, with registration expected later this year.

We’re always looking at ways to “Mix Business with Pleasure”, as we’ve been doing since 1996, and after an extremely busy few months and natural pressures to see deals across the line, tomorrow afternoon sees a little downtime for colleagues and guests - all in the name of charity.

We’re supporting the The Alnwick Garden charity fundraiser, organised by the lady with boundless energy and enthusiasm, Luxe Magazine Debi Coldwell.
