Well, today's been an interesting one! 😐 Two jobs showing how NOT to install a log burner!
Job 1 🔥
No chimney liner, which isn't necessarily a problem providing the chimney is suitable and the installation is done correctly. However...
1. There is an access hatch for sweeping, but one of the screws is hidden behind a bracket, making it impossible to remove properly.
2. The Vitcas pipe extends too far up the chimney.
3. The register plate should be properly sealed, which, as you can see, it clearly isn't!
Job 2 🔥
This one has been sealed with expanding spray foam due to a wasp problem! 😳
Which begs the question: how were the wasps getting in?
Does the liner actually reach the chimney cowl, or is there a gap or breach somewhere in the chimney brickwork or flaunching?
And to top it off, the covering above the stove is wood, when it should be a suitable non-combustible material such as fire-rated board or metal.
Just goes to show why having a stove installed correctly and safely is so important! 🔥
