Good progress continues at our Premier Inn project over in Exmouth. It's a project we're pleased to be part of here in the south west, and our team is working closely with everyone involved to keep things moving smoothly on site. We'll share more as the project develops.

Halfway through her internship with us, Jewel already knows one thing for certain: she's in the right field.

Originally from Myanmar, Jewel has been in the UK for just ten months. She studies architecture at Newcastle University and joined Arque for 2.5 months of work experience, getting stuck into several aspects of the business, from time on live sites to conversations with people right across the construction industry.

Here's how she puts it: "It has truly been an amazing experience. I've had the privilege to work alongside industry professionals and get exposure to live sites, which has improved my understanding of various architectural elements such as materiality."

Helping the next generation into construction careers matters to us, and Jewel has been a great addition to the team.

We're on site in the heart of Exeter.

Work has started at 10a Cathedral Yard, where we're carrying out careful repair and refurbishment works to the display cases for Exeter City Council , right beside Exeter Cathedral.

It's one of the city's best-known spots, so we'll be working tidily and safely around everyone passing by, and keeping any disruption to a minimum while we're there.

Being based just up the road in Crediton, it's always good to have a project this close to home. Thanks to Exeter City Council for their confidence in us, and we'll share a few updates as the works progress.

Last Friday the team downed tools for our staff Summer Social, and the weather did us proud.

We kicked off at Saddles & Paddles on the Quay, where you could either paddle down to the Double Locks by kayak or canoe, or cycle along the towpath, for a few well-earned drinks. Then it was on to Puerto Lounge for dinner together.

It turned out a fair few of us were more at home in the water than on it. Let's just say not everyone made it back with dry shorts.

There's nothing quite like getting everyone together away from site for a day in the sunshine.

We're pleased to share that Arque has been appointed to deliver the Bideford Pannier Market Modernisation for Bideford Town Council, supported by Torridge District Council. Our completion of Torrington Pannier Market played a part in the appointment — experience we'll be drawing on directly here.

The project involves heritage-sensitive repairs and refurbishment to the external fabric of this historic market building, with the market continuing to trade throughout the works. Careful phasing, clear communication with traders and respect for the building's historic character will sit at the heart of our approach, just as they did at Torrington.

Protecting the market's trading future while restoring its fabric to the standard it deserves is what this project is all about, and we're looking forward to getting started.

Our thanks to Bideford Town Council and Torridge District Council for their trust in us. We look forward to working alongside Jonathan Rhind Architects and project manager Myles Clough to deliver this one together.

Stawley Primary School is a small rural school in Somerset, and for some years its teaching had been spread across a cluster of temporary buildings well past their design life.

We've now completed a new two-classroom school for them. Built around the existing hall and delivered in phases, so the children could keep learning on site throughout the works. The new spaces are warmer, brighter and far more energy efficient, with flexible breakout areas for mixed-age teaching and covered outdoor space opening straight off the classrooms.

Social value ran through the project too — a construction careers assembly, pupils signing the steel frame, guided site tours, and a new garden area our team volunteered their time to build on completion.

Our thanks to Somerset Council, Futures for Somerset and LED Architects for the close collaboration, and to the staff and pupils at Stawley for making us so welcome throughout.

We’re pleased to share that Elias Crang has been promoted to Commercial Director at Arque.

In a relatively short time with the business, Elias has already made a strong impression, building relationships across our clients, supply chain partners and wider Arque team.

His promotion reflects the important role he will play in supporting the future direction of the business, while helping maintain the high standards and dependable approach that Arque is built on.

It was a privilege for Arque to support the Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust Awards Night as one of the evening’s sponsors.

Our Contracts Director, Nigel Parker, attended on behalf of Arque and had the pleasure of joining an evening that recognised the dedication, care and commitment shown by so many people across the Trust.

We’re pleased to have completed the Podium Level 1 Refurbishment at Torbay Hospital for Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust.

The project involved the refurbishment of existing office space within a live hospital environment, including new M&E installations, internal partitions, glazed screens, lighting, floor finishes, decorations, ceiling rafts, External access and FF&E.

The completed works have helped provide improved office space within the existing hospital estate, supporting the Trust with a better configured and upgraded working environment.

Thank you to the project team, consultants and our supply chain for their work throughout.
