Diving in the deep end!

This week, we had the pleasure of watching our two newest electricians, Cam and Ken, take the reins on a full solar PV system installation from start to finish.

While they had previously assisted with one or two installs, leading a complete installation was a new challenge for both of them. This hands-on experience is essential for the ongoing development of our team. As an employer and trainer, I believe it’s crucial for our electricians to understand the intricacies of solar system installations in real-world settings before they pursue the necessary qualifications. By doing so, they enter training equipped with practical questions and experiences, enhancing the overall learning experience in the classroom.

And for anyone concerned, I was on-site every step of the way to oversee the installation. I made it clear to Cam and Ken that my role was purely supportive—I wouldn’t interfere or take over. I was there solely to answer their questions and provide guidance when needed.

Great work, Cam and Ken! You did an outstanding job.

Now, onto the commissioning documentation! 😏

👷🏼‍♂️ **Celebrating Our Apprentice: David** 👷🏼‍♂️

This week, we want to take a moment to recognize and express our appreciation for our 2nd-year apprentice, David.

David joined Blue Electric in early 2024 as a first-year apprentice after facing redundancy from his previous position. With a determination to continue his journey in the electrical field, he quickly began searching for a new employer to secure his place in the Steve Willis Apprenticeship program.

During his interview, it was clear that David’s enthusiasm for becoming an electrician was remarkable for someone his age. His passion and drive made him a part of our team before he even left the room!

Since joining us, David has consistently demonstrated his skills and competence, successfully completing:

• Consumer unit upgrades
• Installation of solar PV inverters and monitoring equipment
• 7kW EV charger installations
• Fault finding
• Drafting Electrical Installation Certificates (EIC) and Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICR)

I can confidently say that I would trust this young man to rewire my own home—a feat I’m not sure I would have been capable of at that stage in my own apprenticeship!

David’s talent and dedication make me wonder, should management be concerned about their jobs? … 🤔

🔌👷🏼‍♂️ Exciting Student Work Experience Week! 👷🏼‍♂️🔌

We’re thrilled to announce that Blue Electric has teamed up with Holy Trinity Secondary School to offer a fantastic opportunity for a young student to gain hands-on experience in the construction industry!

This placement is designed for students who want to explore the exciting world of construction and get a glimpse into the daily life of an electrician.

This year, we’ve had the pleasure of hosting Kamare, an enthusiastic student who has truly embraced this experience. He has eagerly participated in various hands-on tasks and shown a strong desire to learn about the critical electrical rules and regulations that guide our work.

As Kamare wraps up his final day with us, our experienced team members have been impressed by his dedication and have been encouraging him to consider a future in the construction industry.

☀️⚡️ Solar Servicing Update ⚡️☀️

This week, our Solar team is diligently working on the final stages of a comprehensive revamp for nine property Solar PV systems. These installations, which have been in place for 8-10 years, have never been serviced until now.

During our initial survey, we discovered that only three of the nine systems were operational, unbeknownst to the tenants 😳. Yes, you read that correctly.

Our investigations revealed that significant upgrades were necessary to enhance safety standards. We found none of the nine solar arrays had:

- Bird proofing
- DC isolation points
- AC supply overload protection
- System monitoring capabilities

Additionally, several arrays had compromised roof mounting systems due to being removed and re-fitted by roofing crews for repairs. Shockingly, one system even had all its MC4 connectors disconnected 🫣.
Since the mounting system components are now obsolete, we have completely renewed one PV array and its mounting system. This allows us to salvage spare materials to repair the other faulty systems.

In addition to these essential repairs, we have given all nine arrays a much-needed cleaning!

We anticipate completing this project next week, delivering nine fully functional and efficient Solar PV systems to our client.

This project underscores the importance and benefits of regularly servicing your Solar PV systems!

📣🎉 We are thrilled to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week at Blue Electric Contractors ltd 🎉📣

This week, three of our four dedicated apprentices have been diligently working on refurbishing multiple Solar PV arrays for a project in West Sussex in collaboration with Mears Group PLC. Through this hands-on experience, they are gaining invaluable knowledge and skills in enhancing the efficiency and safety of existing systems.

Our apprentices are proud attendees of Steve Willis Training Centres in West Sussex. We cannot praise this training center enough for the exceptional education and support they provide to our learners.

- Age: 16
- 1st-year apprentice
- Showing remarkable progress in his onsite skills and always eager to dive into the work and get his hands dirty.

- Age: 17
- 2nd-year apprentice
- Top of his class, adept at rewiring homes to high standards already, and highly knowledgeable about electrical regulations.

👷🏼‍♂️ **Jayden**
- Age: 22
- 2nd-year apprentice
- Among the top three students in his college class, Jayden is a consistent and meticulous young engineer who enjoys commercial electrical installations.

- Age: 29
- 3rd-year apprentice
- Having transitioned from a career as a barber at 27 to pursue his passion for the electrical industry, George exemplifies that it’s never too late to embark on an apprenticeship journey!
