🚨 We found the blockage.

In the final part of this investigation, we get to the bottom of what was causing the drainage system to become overwhelmed.

Once the tank had been emptied, we were able to jet the line and break down what was left inside.

And that’s when we found a secondary blockage…

🧻 Wet wipes
🍳 Cooking fats
💧 A substantial amount of build-up

We worked through the system methodically, checking each chamber as we went to make sure nothing breached back onto the property.

With some chambers being particularly shallow, the jetting had to be carried out carefully and in stages.

The line was then back-jetted as much as possible, giving the customer reassurance that the system had been properly cleared.

There are also some recommendations for the customer to help prevent the same issue happening again.

“But aren’t wipes flushable?” 🧻

Not really…

In Part 3 of this investigation, we take a closer look at what’s causing this drainage system to become completely blocked.

Wipes are one of the culprits, but we also found signs of cooking oil and other build-up within the system.

The result? A drainage system operating at maximum capacity, with nowhere for the waste to go.

Thankfully, the tanker was on site.

Using a combination of suction and high-pressure jetting, the tanker could remove the waste and help clear the line, bringing the system back towards capacity.

It’s a good reminder that what goes down the toilet or sink can have a much bigger impact further down the line.

🚨 The system was completely overrun.

In Part 2 of this investigation, we continue extracting waste from the system before we can properly assess what’s causing the drainage issues.

And as the waste is removed, we start to see one of the problems…

🧻 Wipes.

A lot of them.

We understand that with young children, wipes can seem like an easy solution, but putting them down the toilet can cause serious problems further down the line.

They don't break down in the same way as toilet paper and can build up, block pipework and contribute to drainage systems becoming overwhelmed.

For this property, the system needs to be fully emptied before we can carry out the next stage of the investigation.

In Part 1 of our latest job, we arrive on site following a report of an overflowing drain at the rear of the property.

Our initial assessment found that all of the manholes were at full capacity, and the tank was full too.

So, before we could get to the bottom of the problem, we needed to extract the waste from the tank and continue our investigation.
